  1. that house you're looking to buy ... better not be more than 3x your annual salary if you don't want to end up house poor. so if the median average is $400,000 for a house you better make at least $150,000.00 a year because that was based on your gross income not your net. and then if you're in high crazy markets like NY or california where that house could almost run you $1 million dollars... you better make at least $350,000 a year. if you want to own that $3 million dollar mansion you better make at least $ 1 million a year.
