Walmart would strong arm suppliers for lower prices. Why because the actual surplus value is created by the manufactures workers. The retail distributors share the surplus value created by the manufacture of commodities. Most Walmart workers go on the books as overhead rather than production although the predictability of retail sales is much more quantifiable today than when retail was done by small dry goods stores. If workers fight for higher wages and win it will also force the layoff of lots of dead weight like extra lawyers, unnecessary managers, industrial psychologists, store police, merchandising experts and so on.

Walmart's prices are no lower than many other retailers. They however want to convince customers that those prices are lower and that they would rise if wages went up. On a macro economic scale the one area in which prices that would go up is in the luxury goods area. Production of necessities would rise to fulfill the needs of the minimum wage workers. Bosses and capitalist owners would see a decline in overall profits which would be a good sign for workers since they would be competing to invest in the production of necessity market instead of speculation on debt, futures markets, bonds and stocks.

+D D Part of their success is based on their reputation. Retail is all about convincing the customer you've got quality and low prices. Walmart is everywhere now and its role in the market place lets it strong arm its suppliers, dictate all kinds of terms and use area pricing to drive out its competitors. I often shop there out of convenience because other department stores are a considerate distance away or have closed there doors. I would not buy a computer there but would buy a TV, a gallon of milk and motor oil.

Capitalism is all about lying and cheating. Crony capitalism is just plain old regular capitalism.

Its in the workers interest to fight for higher wages not to save one business over another form competition or monopolistic practices. Those are the natural workings of capitalism.

123chargeit Cuba is an example of socialism and no one is starving there. The Cuban people share what they have among themselves and with the rest of the world. They educate more doctors for the rest of the underdeveloped world while the USA imports doctors from underdeveloped world because the AMA limits the number of doctors that can be trained in the USA. When Ebola broke out in Africa they had no problem finding volunteers to serve the needs of people in Africa while Obama sent only a few military doctors and confined them to treating health care personnel.

123chargeit Venezuela has a Socialist movement. Outside of oil private enterprise remains. Why does the US need to continue over 50 years of a cruel blockade against Cuba?.Why military aid to Saudi Arabia and its Sharia a law monarchy. Try bringing a dozen bibles into Saudi Arabia and see how fast the religious police throw you into jail.

Saudi Arabia is a US ally with a real dictatorship. They are allowed to trade and buy plenty of weapons from the US keeping the dictatorship in power. Cuba isn't a dictatorship and that's why US propaganda, blockade and terrorism is a failure among the Cuban People. The Cuban people have retained their dignity. They have no intention of 'opening up' the way China has. Foreign investment will be strictly controlled by their government. The US Imperialists and the Miami Mafia have predicted time and time again that the Cuban People would surrender to Washington. Instead they have been forced to recognize the revolutionary government despite the plea's from the Miami Mafia and return the 5 hero's. When Fidel died a few contra's got drunk and spewed their hatred of the revolution in Miami while in Cuba the masses of people celebrated his life and a reverse of the Caravan of Liberty that took the revolutionary government from Santiago de Cuba to Havana.
