  2.  @modigrey  Lenin wanted Stalin out of his position as General Secretary. Would that have made a difference? The basis of unity between Lenin and Trotsky was Lenin's April Theis and Trotsky's realizations that the Bolshevik Party was the type needed for a revolution. Stalin's idea of an alliance with a progressive liberal bourgeois instead of a workers and farmers alliance belongs in the ash heap of history.

So What? Lots of people were influenced by Marx including one of the founders of American Conservatism James Burnham who was a former member of the Socialist Workers Party.
