@loganprasch7115 A fetus that can't survive outside of a women's body without any medical care is not a baby. The reason being is that medical treatment is optional and people can not be forced to have it. Plenty of people go against medical advice for many reasons. Some don't want the bill. Some don't want to take the risk. Some have religious beliefs as the reason. Having a legal and safe abortion for whatever reason is a perfectly valid decision. I don't see how the two party politicians have the moral standing to decided who can have and can not have an abortion. They have no problem voting for endless war in the middle east but some how they have the moral authority to tell a women she must give birth or die.

No one gets an abortion at 8 months and 29 days. The state and police have no business in personal and medical matters. Doctors are the ones who control what is within their code of ethics. You can't sue a doctor for malpractice without the state medical board first giving the go ahead. Why should it be any different for abortion or contraceptive care?

The question is will women have the right to decide when and with whom to have children to plan her life. Technology should be left out since their is no unlimited and free healthcare and any healthcare decisions has consequences beyond any possible good outcomes. Heath care can change the odds in a limited manner but it can not produce a 100% guarantee of a favorable outcome. The decision in Roe v. Wade should have been based upon women being equal before the law and women having the right to control their bodily functions.

Pregnancy is not a crime. Your rotten apple cops don't get the right interfere in something that is legal like pregnancy. No ethical doctor is going to perform a third trimester abortion without a good medical reason. Someone showing up for a last minute abortion will most likely sent to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation which is where all those hollaring that "abortion is murder" should be sent. How many murder convictions have you been able to sustain against a physician for abortion/murder? In fifty years I count exactly one. Kermit Gosnell. Gosnell would have gone to jail for murder with or without special abortion laws. Third trimester abortion laws are nothing more than "feel good" laws written by corrupt politicians seeking reelection.

There is nothing moral about forcing a women to give birth against her will. I know someone who got pregnant because a so call doctor told her she couldn't. His reason being abuse suffered as an unwanted child who was later adopted. The abuse was no doubt real but the sperm only needs to meet the egg. It has nothing to do with abuse unless her actual reproductive organs were removed or severely damaged. Knowing her adopted mom she was sent to a Quack doctor who knowly told her that so a latter pregnancy could be declared a miracle from God. She had the child without a father because he wanted nothing to do with a pregnant girlfriend. She is raising the child without a father on welfare. She doesn't have a high school diploma because she was home schooled by a single mother supported by church donations instead of being sent to a good surban high school less than a mile away. Mom also could have sent her to a Christian high school but I guess somehow that just wasn't Christian enough.

The other choice is to have an abortion which is less likely to result in death. The insurance companies know this and that's why they are much happier to pay for abortions than childbirth. Not to mention what happens when they have to pay for children's childcare.

I know enough about medicine that given our current knowledge they can't predict as much as an electrical engineer like you can. If you had the choice of eye surgery done by a doctor with what amounts to an exacto knife or a robot with the same knife under control like a modern hard drive electromechanically picking out the correct cylinder to read from? Unfortunately I had the exacto knife procedure and the outcome was poor. I didn't lose all my sight in that eye but for the time being nothing can be done. Someday maybe the only need for abortions will be medical. That isn't today. The anti abortion forces are against birth control also. That should be a clue for anyone who looks at who they have with them.

In the case of children the parents or parent have the right to make that decision. Refusing extraordinary measures is already a right of parents for their children. You also have a right to give birth at home or any other place you choose without a physician. Someone shows up at an abortion clinic who asks for an abortion. An examination puts her into a gray area of possibly being viable. Do you tell her to go away we can't help you? Or after a discussion with her do you give her a shot which will induce labor which then results in a preemie. Now are you obligated to take extraordinary measures to save the life of the preemie? What if the women had a natural born preemie in the gynecological doctors office? Maybe she had the preemie at home and alone. If the preemie dies at home or on the way to the hospital is that now going to be a crime? I don't pretend to know anything beyond what seems reasonable. You want to talk about situations like 8 month 29 day abortions accomplished by cutting the spinal cord while the baby is already in the birth canal. Then form there you what to extrapolate into writing regulations for all possible situations. Do you also plan on stationing the police to watch and investigate gynecological offices for possible law breaking abortion doctors?

Basicly the federal government can only do what is listed as federal responsibility in the Constitution. Most federal power comes from regulating interstate and foreign commerce. Since most medical care is carried out within states and not in interstate commerce then it is up to the states to regulate such care which is why the states issue Physicians license and not the federal government like FAA pilots licenses or radio transmission license. The tenth amendment is where the rest of the constitutionality of the right to privacy is found "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."

Tell the women she can't have one because she needs to be responsible? Well than maybe she goes to the Veterinarian gets some pills for dog ulcers and induces labor. If you want to have 11 pregnancies with 2 miscarriages like my grandmother that should be your right. Every women who gets pregnant rolls the dice as it is still more likely to die in childbirth than having a safe abortion. Subsistence agriculture favored having more children because every child helped with the planting and harvest. That may have been a logical and valid argument against abortion. We don't live in that kind of world today. Over have of the world's human beings now live in cities. It's the increase in agricultural productivity that allows half of us to live in cities. Most of us who live in cities can not afford to have the large number of children that women on farms could produce. As far as any moral argument is concerned for thousands of years we have had ways to justify murder in war. Now the moralists have decided that it is better to die of unplanned pregnancy then live. They plan to solve the abortion problem by denying access to the poor and working class while the upper class reserves the right though the old abortion "humiliation" boards and air flight to abortion permission jurisdictions.

For them they want politicians, priests and policemen making all the decisions and writing laws for all situations ahead of time. As if one could write a book to handle all possible situations in a pregnancy. I have done a lot of thinking about this and I can come up with lots reasons as to why the decisions about pregnancy belong to a women and her doctor. I have yet to here a good one as to why they belong in a law book which the police must enforce. It's bad enough that some licensed physicians shouldn't be allowed to prescribe an aspirin. Why anyone would want people whose biggest skill is wining popularity contests to make those decisions by writing laws is beyond me. They same goes for Catholic Priests who's church has been rocked by the scandal of child abuse. Who's clergy are forbidden to a adopt a single orphan. Yet they are the most and best organized of the pro birth position.

That has to be some kind of record. There's more doctors who've had their licenses pulled for drug abuse and operating a prescription drug racket. From a medical scientific view you are dead and not going to come back. Same thing with a fetus only human life hasn't begun until you are born. It makes no difference what kind of brain activity you have because no one ever remembers their time in the uterus or at the time of birth. Birth is the correct place to draw the line. @samuelmerkel2888 It's an excessive and unnecessary to regulate abortion. With over 40 years of abortion rights only one doctor has been convicted of acting illegally. The right to an abortion is a backstop to contraception. The anti abortionists want the state involved in a personal decision claiming they as third parties know what is best. There is nothing moral about forcing someone to surrender there body to someone elses desires. If that was true than slavery and rape could be justified by the "Good Results" slavery and rape provided to the slave owner and rapists. Even the police can not be held accountable for law enforcement that would have saved a life. So where does the right to prevent an abortion reside? It is all based upon the assumption that a women should be obligated first to bring a pregnancy to term. Pregnancies don't always result in a live birth and it is still medically safer to have an abortion then bring a pregnancy to term. There is no reason to believe that will change. If we endow a fetus with legal rights, we give third parties rights to involve themselves in each and every pregnancy because there is absolutely no way a fetus can be consulted in any decision the mother makes other than to assume it wants to live. Give a fetus rights and you open the door to reviewing all the mothers actions during pregnancy.

If it was somehow easily separable like a chicken and a chicken egg than you would have a case to demand fetal separation instead of abortion. People change their minds about things all the time. In your perfect world women should only have sex if they are willing to have children. If they are irresponsible you want to compound that error by demanding responsibility and making a new born child into a test for responsibility. We already have plenty of unwanted children but for you we just need more for some stupid moral quest of perfection that most likely involves your god. Let's say I've had an accident and I've lost a lot of blood it's a rare type and your the only one close by with that blood type. Can I demand you give me some of yours? You will probably never miss it. After all if I've lost too much there is good reason to believe I might die. There is no question that I'm a living Human being and I may even be conscious and desirous of life. No one will be able to question your right to refuse in a court of law even if I'm your son. Somehow a fetus has more rights to another's person's body? No analogy is going to be perfect but this one seems to be much more perfect a situation. No question that I'm a person. No question that as a son I'm a result of the sex you had. My brother, sister and I were all wanted children. That is what we are for as long as you want them have as many children as you like. Not a single Catholic priest has adopted a child. American law is generally understood to limit state power for individual rights. Not one where you need permission before you can do anything. I'm 65 and being carded for a bottle of beer because of zero tolerance laws. There is no such thing as an absolute morality. In general we want all foreign military bases closed and all military spending limited to what would be necessary for a workers militia. A new immigration policy that ends temporary work permits, legalises people in immigration limbo, restricts deportation to a punishment only when imposed at a time of trial. That deportion's should be for limited terms depending on the offense not a one size (30 years) fits all.

It is only upon birth that we being our lives independently of a single person, our mother. @samuelmerkel2888 You can get a treatment for leukemia where you blood DNA no longer matches your own. That is also true in transplants from other than an identical twin. I'm not impressed by stupid arguments like letting a baby die on a table. In a natural birth the baby comes out automatically regardless of the mother's wishes. The cord is cut and the baby takes a breath. The after birth has what was the placenta that connected the mother's body to the baby. The mother, another women that is lactating or baby formula can feed the newborn. Biology will no longer dictate to the newborn like it did to the fetus survival being incumbent on one specific individual.

It is totally dependent on its mother's body only for life alone. A fetus can't switch mothers. It can't be temporarily disconnected from the mother. The father can't take care of the fetus while mom goes grocery shopping. If you took a course in sex education you might have learned that very important fact.

Any rights the fetus might have are inferior to those of the mother. The reason being is it is not an independent being. If you unhappy with that then you should take up the problem with nature. If it's just a matter of sympathy and opinion than you wouldn't be demanding the police enforce anti abortion laws calling abortion murder. If abortion is made illegal women will still seek to have them. Instead of legal and safe they will be illegal and unsafe. Rich and upper class women will get abortions okayed by abortion humiliation boards or get on an airplane to a jurisdiction where abortions are safe and legal.
