@mdosen2 No state can require a public employee to pay union dues since the Janus Supreme court ruling. Before the ruling the state could only require you pay either dues or money in lue of dues.

@mdosen2 If anything the union has to be more responsive to the members if it wants to collect dues so it can negotiate contacts which are local in nature and get the ears of politicians. Most of the union officials became Democrats after Reagan broke the Air Traffic Controllers strike. Ironically the Air Traffic Controllers Union officials had supported Reagan's election. Reagan is the only President to have been a union member. .

@mdosen2 It's the same reason everything elese has been allowed ti go into decline. Why educate workers when all you need is people who will follow orders? The logic of capitalism is to invest in new machines to replace higher paid skilled labor with unskilled labor and new machines to drive profits to your company or branch of industry. The long term problem with that is that as the value of capital rises than the amount of labor which creates the profit goes down. Now because over time prices sink towards the cost of production. What happens is the rate of profit by which all capital judges success also falls. This is why giant industries go into decline. It no longer is profitable to invest in expanding production.
