  3. Truman and Stalin had no right to divide Korea after the war. MacArthur used the defeat of Japan as an excuse to set himself up as the new Imperialist in control of Korea. Official language was changed from Japanese to English. MacArthur didn't like the anti Japanese guerrillas who were the choice of the Korean People so he immediately launched a campaign of suppression and murder. Without enough American Troops he turned to the defeated Japanese war criminals and Korean collaborators.   5. The South has had six republics since WW2. The last President was kicked out and along with some CEO's is now in Jail. They don't have problems with "dictators" as long as they tow the US policy line. They send over Mike Pence who reports that there is no daylight between South Korea, Japan and the US so obviously their is. They catch a picture of him sitting there with a stone cold face while Kim Jong un has his sister smiling in the background. Pence will no doubt get the consecutive of the year award for that one and not much else.

  6. The nineties saw the end of the Soviet Union and a big economic shock imposed on what was the rest of Soviet Union. So like Cuba and Vietnam they were hit by an end of favorable trade. What plays out here with Trump making a big noise will no doubt play out differently in Korea and in the rest of the world. The North talks nationalism and self reliance. Both sides claim to want reunification. Nikki Haley saying the US won't accept a Nuclear DRPK isn't going to win friends and influence people.   7. Nukes don't give you much domestically for very long and world opinion is also likely to reverse. Eastern Europe went down without Nato firing a single shot. I think the whole mess is more likely to fix itself if the US withdraws and stops having yearly practice invitations. Nor do I believe they are all that isolated. It's about 120 miles by air from Pyongyang to Seoul and medium wave commercial broadcasts are well within night time range.
