@mikeguilmette776 Classes have different class interests that conflict with each other. The mostly northern merchants could not agree on many things with the Southern Slave Owners. The Merchants were an economic class that was rising in economic importance while the slave owner's became a historically obsolete obstacle to the new system of wage labor and capital. What allowed for unity for a period of time was their common ownership of property. The same as that between the Feudal Landowners and the English merchants before and after the English civil wars. The Southern Slave Owners were also property owners and that is why the Northern Republican Industrialist eventually dropped their opposition to Democratic Party rule in the South. What makes the capitalist a revolutionary class is their involuntary promotion of modern industry and the creation of the world market. What makes them a problem is their own success. Their system is unstable because it is still based in exploitation and they resort to war and military methods to defend themselves against the newly rising working class and with each other on a national basis. . .

@heavyd777 A Constitutional Republic is merely a government of rules or laws instead of a hereditary monarchy. Democracy means decision by the majority. There is no requirement for election by an absolute majority of eligible voters only by those who vote.
