Why don't they fall for all the propaganda generated by the USA? Afterall they are only an island with a small population. Could be that capitalist culture in the US is just filled wth all kinds of lies told in the service of profits. Advertising is the most glaring examples of the lies needed to keep up the sales of products including many that become next to worthless to anyone after sale.

They reinvest to expand production and when they can't invest in more production because of overproduction with markets filled with products but no buyer at the prices demanded they turn to driving up the speculative value of whatever they religiously believe always rises in value until the prices collapse and produce a self defeating economic crisis. Since the workers couldn't buy back all that could be produced the capitalist now begin the process of layoffs creating even less demand and more layoffs and evictions. That is how you system creates personal success and freedom by creating a life of misery for millions so that you can talk about how free that dollar bill in your pocket makes you.

@ltmund It's no differnt than the freedom that the slaveholder had. The 19th century slave owners success was based upon owning the labor power of other human beings and selling the product. The capitalist success is based upon the buying the labor power of other human beings and selling the product. Like always the best slave is one who thinks he is free. When the slave realized he was feeding the slave owner instead of the slave owner feeding him is when the slave quit being a slave. When the workers realise they feed the bosses instead of the bosses feeding them this is when capitalism comes to an end because then the workers realise their own humanity and self worth. This is when they realise the boss plays no special role that requires his control over mountains of private property but requires workers control over what it is workers have created the whole world system of production and trade. .

Yet those slave societies only achieved so much before going into decline being replaced with feudalism where a king ruled through allaince he made with others who owned land could contribute taxes and soldiers. The Empires of Rome and Egypt used slaves and sent out armies to capture more slaves to create their empires. With feudalism the peasants belonged to the land and the land belonged to a noble who entered into military alliances for self protection. Meanwhile a new middle class of people developed in the cities of Europe the men who carried on trade both near and far. Spanish and Portuguese began to eclipse anything the Romans did with the new shipbuilding technology sending out expeditions to concur foreign lands and use slaves t mine gold to make themselves rich. But it was the English Dutch and Swiss middle class that were the ones making themselves rich though trade and manufacture. They would constantly fight to overthrow the power of the monarchy in a class struggle. The world today is characterised by industrial production not independent bosses working in garages to become a Steve Jobs. For every Steve Jobs and Bill Gates their were thousands of engineers and millions of workers to make the modern communication industry possible. The only role Gates and Jobs played was that of wealth business tycoons fighting for market share. .

Sowell has been sitting with egg on his face since the crisis of 2008 and the Stalinist movement was defeated by the workers with popular revolutions in the Eastern Bloc and the Soviet Union not capitalist bosses sending their armies in. In China the Stalinist were already on the capitalist road they accused the Soviets of being on. Friedman's theory of capitalism bringing freedom keeps crashing against walls of reality. The bosses only become more punitive and nore petty in their way in which they treat us. Their crisis ridden system becomes an obstacle to the forces of production itself.

The problems with capitalism stem from a small ruling class unable to control production with the methods of profit and loss the long proof of that is in Das Kapital. Capitalism only works for a short time because the contradictions based with the workings of the profit system. Investment is merely they way in which capital organizes production. The problem s that not all investment is worthwhile to begin with. Only when it results in reducing labor time or expanding production does it increase the productive forces. When you invest in things that become a problem after then it becomes a negative like DDT, PCB's, leaded gasoline and nuclear weapons. So investing just for moneys sake doesn't always result in a good outcome. What's the point of opening more gold mines when Gold isn't used for money and kept it huge stashes in places like Fort Knox? . Capitalism also is the first system with the problem of overproduction of commodities for markets that can no longer yield back a profit. That along with driving up the price of fictitious capital when you can no longer expand production for profits causes economic crisis because the workers can no longer buy back all that can be produced You thn cut back on production and wages only worsening the crisis.creating situations like 2008. Then your find you need to bail yourselves out. You've been doing a lot of stupid things to maximize profits and its starting to catch up with you. Like overfilling cargo ships and not taking into account the mess that will need to be cleaned up in the middle of the ocean because that's goes on the books as a loss of the commodities only in insurance records with the clean up put off for to be paid for in the future.

After the Cuban revolution no one was told they couldn't be an administrator what they were told is they could use their position to exploit others and government officials had their pay cut. Those who left for higher pay in the US and other places were replaced with more people getting education. While the remain an underdeveloped they have been able to advance out of the misery that was Cuba before the revolution and in many ways they rival or exceed the United States and Europe.

In fact differences of opinion develop among all classes when their class interests aren't moving the general creation of surplus value in overall wealth forward. A careful reading of Marx shows it is not some fixed dogma Like that of religions expressed in novels like Ayn Rand's objectivism or Stalin's self serving theories of a bureautic cream that rose to sit upon the new workers state needing to both defend its privileges against the masses of workers and defend the workers state from military defeat by the foreign Imperialist powers. The theories that no longer apply either disappear or are replaced by better ones. like a flat earth or an earth centric world. The pope tried to halt Galileo's ideas of a heliocentric world just as Stalin, Hitler, and FDR tried to halt the ideas of Trotsky. Yet those are the ideas that broke down all the barriers erected and were confirmed by Fidel Castro and the Cuban revolution.

The best way to counter the NAZI threat is with mass counter mobilization and protest not handing powers to regulate speech and political association to the Capitalist State power. Just as liberals who want to toss aside constitutional protections in the haste to get Trump pose a threat to everyone's freedoms guaranteed in the Constitution. @beekeeper8474 No it doesn't people have as much choice of occupation in Cuba as anywhere else if not more so since education isn't skewed to those with families of higher incomes like in the United States. What you don't get is a the privileges conferred by education. Which is what the so called dissenters who are supported by the United States demand. They demand Western Salaries for demoralised intellectuals like themselves and when they don't get them they head for the United States or Western Europe. Some have returned and continue cries for reforms like putting everything under control of AI and ending anymore volunteer labor or the building of socialism. They are correctly seen as just out for themselves and so their ideas are rejected.

So China couldn't have been developed with lend lease aid and help form capitalist countries like Sowell attributes the success of Soviet Unions economy.

Since that's exactly what they were. Despite all the actions of Stalin without the courage of the Soviet Workers and peasants who lost the greatest number of soldiers and civilians in the War Hitler's Regime may have won the war instead of the Soviet Union and Democratic Imperialism. The end of the war resulted in such weakening of Western Imperialism that the European Powers could not maintain their direct military colonial subjugation. American Imperialism the top dog after the war was unable to prevent the Chinese from defeating the Imperialist collaberors and Stalin was unable to deliver Yugoslavia to the British Imperialists.

The Red Army reached Berlin before the Democratic Imperialists got to the Elbe river. Those are facts you can't deny. In the Far East Mao's Chinese Red Army defeated the Imperialists Japaneses and General Chang's nationalist murderers were forced into withdrawing to Taiwan which had been under Japanese control. American soldiers demanding to be sent home prevented the Imperialist from invading China and Churchill's defeat put the plans to use defeated NAZI Troops along with the Democratic Imperialists for another war against the Soviet Union ON HOLD.

They did what they thought was necessary just as Lincoln did in the civil war and Grant after the civil war. The Union Army held trials of confederates by military commission no jury needed. Congress gave Grant the power to declare marshall law. Section 3 of the 14th Amendment was passed to deal with this real counterrevolution. The Southern Reconstruction governments were popular having built the first public schools in the South except for the former land owning slave owners and under attack from secret organization of political gangsters like the KKK and the Red Shirts. The decision by both parties to withdraw Federal Troops early set the stage for one hundred years of segregation, denial of Black voting rights and anti Black terror. England went through this with the civil wars before and after the execution of King Charles. Those still living commissioners who had voted for the execution of the King were either executed, given life sentences or had to go into foreign exile after restoration. The Monarchists went so far as to dig up Cromwell's body and hang it from a Gallows. They had a revolution in 1905 and the Czar went back on his promises. Lenin was shot by a terrorist and Trotsky was the target of a bomb blast. They didn't just arbitrarily murder people nor was rape or torture being used or condonded as weapons by the leaders. The terror was directed at people who actually committed crimes. They called it terror because they called things by their true names as it was meant to terrorize opponents of the revolution out of using terrorism. In the case of the Czar the soldiers requested permission to execute him because they were in danger of being over run and did not want him to be used a symbol to rally political support around.

Was the American Revolution and Civil War justified or just a case of conflict that wasn't pretty? Maybe if more slave owners and traders had been shot for their crimes instead of being amnestied by Congress Blacks would not have had to struggle for over 100 years to get the promises of the 14th and 15th Amendments?

After the end of the Cold War the Stalinist Parties and stalinist brought back capitalism. Fidel Castro and Cuba did not adopt dog eat dog capitalism like the Stalinists Parties. @zarach9459 Now if you want to practice a trade in the capitalist USA you need a state or city permit requiring an exam with proof that you worked as a slave for some boss with a permit to work in the trade. The only change is now the bosses have the government issue the permit.
