@itgetter9 This kind of legal thievery of wages goes on all the time in one way or another. AT&T stole my overtime money and then they fired me. The difference here is the miners stood strong against this kind of bankruptcy. Those banks would have never direct deposited those miners checks if the money wasn't there.
3
@itgetter9 They aren't lying thieves like both parties and wall street bankers.
2
What's Nancy Pelosi doing?
2
@joebp91 Right their busy writing up the phoney "Green New Deal".
2
@JayBee-se8ou Enjoy riding you cycle and I hope you never need the American medical profession.
2
@JayBee-se8ou I love camping we live in our trailer which beats the old folks home hands down.
2
@jasonraczkowski6001 Jay Bee is a used car salesman that was fired form his post as a Yale English Professor.
2
These miners are standing up for all of us who've been victimised by boss greed. Cashing your check at your bosses bank for cash money when you get it is much safer than a direct deposit or depositing your check into your account. A direct deposit and check deposit can be reversed at the whim of the bankers clearing house rules set up before electronic banking made instantaneous banking transfers possible. This is an example of legal thievery by the banks.
2
@RCmack And if Clinton was elected she'd be helping herself not the miners. All these frantic anyone but Trump liberals and Rhino's are upset not because they lost but because Trump won. You can easily see the people they hate the most are workers who didn't vote for their fake creampie promises. They have no constructive ideas whatsoever. Medicaid for all? Well a lot of unions already have a plan better than medicare. It's the same old song and dance about who gets what and who pays. We use to have what was probably the best highway network in the world. Now we have an orange barrel system.
2
@emcemc7506 Black Lung payments were won in the class struggle between the coal companies and the UMWA. Obama played no role whatsoever in that. Plus I don't need you condescending "Try to Keep Up" Obamaesque attitude. You can try and keep up with me if you can. Liberal ideas of the past may have included unions but since at least the Great Railroad strike of 1877 American liberalism recognizes only the sell out leaders in the labor movement who can make great speeches with almost no substance.
2
I'm sue some voted for Clinton so what is the Democratic Party doing for them?
2
@tulw2728 I was smart enough not to vote for either. I think if you check into it you will find a decline in voting in West Virginia. Jay Rockefeller, Jim Justice, Hillary Clinton, and Donald Trump have all switched parties. Trump didn't get the "Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval" from the rest of the ruling class. That and his appeal to workers pain who have been ignored by the liberals got him elected.
1
I fail to see why Clinton would be any better despite all the attacks lead by Clinton supporters on Trump voters in this comment section. She promised this and she promised that. She promised to fix healthcare back when her husband was in power. She was holed up in a secret room and when she emerged she said the right wing was too strong. I don't call that person a leader. I call them a deserter. Looking for bigger and better tasting deserts no doubt..

@tulw2728 You realize iron isn't like gold. Its ore comes as an oxide not a free metal. You can heat it all day and it won't change into metal. The steel company changes ore into metal by mixing it with coke made in ovens out of metallurgical grade coal along with limestone to get out the impurities. Then they start it burning in either an open hearth or blast furnace. They usually throw in some scrap iron to cheapen the overall cost. A chemical reaction takes place as the coke becomes carbon dioxide by taking the oxygen form the ore leaving iron behind as a free metal. Carbon content and what other metals are mixed in give steel its different kinds of properties.
1
@tulw2728 They strip mine the ore in places like the Mesabi Iron Range in MN using gigantic machines. It goes by rail or boat in the Great Lakes to the mills. The coal (coke) is used in making iron metal from the ore in the Blast furnace or open hearth process.
1
@tulw2728 A large amount of Iron cannot be recycled anytime soon because its used in reinforced concrete for building roads, bridges and buildings. That brings up another problem. That of portland cement used in making concrete. Not only does it take a huge amount of energy to heat in the process of making it but the process itself release CO2. Then add cost of transporting such a heavy and dense material to the kiln and then the end user.. It is estimated to be responsible for 10% of worlds CO2 and greenhouse gas emissions.
1
@tulw2728 I think the Green New Deal is dead on arrival. Anyone who thinks you can put up currently designed windmills, PV and solar to replace all fossil fuels usage is nuts. We should be pursuing better nuclear technologies and capturing CO2 before it gets released. Voting in a new set of Democratic Party crooks isn't going to solve anything either. Politically I don't see this problem being solvable within the capitalist social framework.
1
@tulw2728 We've had Nuclear energy for less than one hundred years. We've had fire for thousands. If we rejected fire as dangerous we would still be riding horses and eating only raw food. France's electrical energy is almost totally powered by nuclear. We could factory build plants with a modular design instead of each being a custom job. Any problems with design could be all fixed more simply instead of having to look back and analyzing each custom design. We have much better computer control technology, small video cameras and robotics that would make the human errors that caused "Three Mile Island" much less likely. We have built experimental molten salt reactors that could be powered by past nuclear waste and use thorium instead of uranium 235. U 235 is as rare as Platinum. Thorium is much more plentiful. They also have advantage of being walkaway safe meaning no more Chernobys and Fukushimas. Most of Fukushima was a disaster for those who lived in the area who could not escape due to no disaster planning and a low sea wall. Had they properly planned for a disaster than those big diesel generators would have come online powering pumps and prevented the partial meltdowns. Instead the generator rooms were filled with seawater along with conduit going to the pumps. That problem was anything but "Hi Tech." It was a case of let's save some money problem.
1
@tulw2728 By the way your sarcasm isn't all that funny. Maybe you should change your screen name to Bozo the Clown that way you can get a few cheap laughs like Al Franken.
1
@tulw2728 There are no win win situations with the late capitalism we have today. They lied about Nuclear energy. They said it would be to cheap to meter. Working people believed those lies and purchased all electric homes in Ludlow, MA. Later the had to retrofit their homes with oil or gas heat. What makes you think that buying a 2 Kw PV array will produce 2 Kw on a less than maximum possible basis? MIT claims it has bought the production of PV in North Carolina. You don't believe they are really going to get their actual power from North Carolina do you? Companies can play that game while using power made at home in New England. At a certain point that becomes either impossible or wastes power by being actually transmitted a long distance.
1
@tulw2728 The Green New Deal starts with a lie that the New Deal ended the Great Depression. It didn't!!! The FDR War Deal ended the great depression with the European capitalists destroying each others manufacturing capacity along with the US destruction of Japan. New Deal bureaucrats just enriched themselves. Just like all the current alphabet soup federal greed regulation agencies. Capitalist production could not be revived without massive destruction of capital such that primitive accumulation could restart world trade.
1
@tulw2728 i've been to lots of demonstrations for Women's rights, Anti racist rallies against Democratic Party racism in Boston, and Anti war demonstrations. I never went to SeaBrook, NH because I didn't agree with the anti technology sentiment. Nuclear needs consideration because of its energy density. Physics prevent getting any more energy density out of PV.
1
@tulw2728 Do you have PV at home? If so why and how is it working and if not why not?
1
EpiDemic117 Orange man doesn't like David Duke like you do. You guys do your best negotiating when your half in the bag anyway like the South African Pik Botha or trying to project yourselves as a complete nutcases like Nixon's strategy for the losers at the Paris Peace talks. Plus I'd ride in Hugh Thomson's Helio anyday. Its people like Lt Calley who gave the US Forces in Vietnam a black eye. The My Lai massacre include not just children and pregnant women but infants. What was Lt Calley doing anyway trying to outdo god in Hosea 13:16 KJV?
1
You wanted Clinton who would have at least tried to her promise to get rid of coal miners. Why would we need her?
1
@RCmack The is no way to improve anything by voting for a Democratic Party of Billionaire liberal capitalists as lessor evils. McGrath is a female Democratic "Imperialist War" Party candidate. She needs exactly zero votes "to win." Thats how many she should get form workers and anyone who wants an end to the endless Imperialist war government policy. McGrath is out to help herself and the Billionaire capitalist only. She deserves ever boo she gets.
1
Ricardo Gonzalez It shows that a new Party is needed.
1
@joebp91 You don't get to socialism by voting for a Party of Liberals and Billionaires capitalists. The Democrats have an exactly zero constructive ideas about anything. What did Obama do to fix the roads beside issuing orange barrel contracts. Who got help out by the sand in the carburetor program? How many families can now afford college because Obama said "Open a Book Sometime". Or where a Liberal Boss calls in to say he isn't shutting down so he is saving jobs with Obama then saying my program to save jobs works and the numbers show it. The really stupid people are voting for Democratic Party Liberals.
1
@JayBee-se8ou With Socialism no one owns the means of production its the workers who control it. With capitalism if you produce to much than the capitalist can sell at a profit he shuts production and stops paying you. You now apply for unemployment and start looking for jobs in other words "Your on your own." With socialism you have open central planing instead of planning for profits done by individual companies with the associated boom and bust cycle. You plan on time for education throughout the working class so you can better you cultural skill level and instead of the old incentives of piece rate connected to production you can add time of with pay and more equatable wages. The biggest difference is people don't get left behind because socialism includes cultural change in the way working people people see themselves as actors and doers rather than being treated as the people who work for us. You can get rid of a lot of bureaucracy because things like safety and pollution are now under control of the people who work and their community. You can ask for scientific advice from a University but you are the end maker of your own decisions and as the cultural level rises many things that are clear anti social to begin with don't receive any support. Are you going to vote to close the plant and move production elsewhere with no plan whatsoever ahead of time like the bosses do today? The workers at the flint water department must of known about the lead pipes with capitalism they aren't listened to and to many experts were thinking about costs such that they let things deteriore with no plan to replace the pipes that they should had years ago.
1
@JayBee-se8ou I write today because I'm not afraid of insults from upper class know it alls. Twenty million Red Army soldiers died to get rid of Hitler which is why you don't speak German today. My ability to please an English teacher or professor like yourself is not the issue. Why should I answer any questions posed by someone who begins with a superior attitude with your claims that I must of been educated in Russia which is why my English is so bad? It couldn't possible be the fault of a capitalist school system in the United States could it? Sure in the US everyone gets to attend a neighborhood school system funded by the neighborhood. It's just that some neighborhoods are more equal than others right? Since you are such a superior writer give yourself a Pulitzer Prize just like the capitalists give themselves money. They traded in all their bad paper (Junk bonds) for good paper (Federal Reserve Notes) and called it quantitative easing. I used the word 'us' once. It is a confusing word which is why I usually don't usually use it. 'us' meaning a group is often mixed up with US meaning the United States. Instead of 'us' I should have used capitalists or the upper class. We are the ones who actually do jobs like cable guy, dishwasher, taxi driver, bus driver, retail worker, and electronics tech and I have actually done all those jobs so we includes my co workers. I'm sure an expert in the English language like you Professor Jay Bee will be able to pick apart everything I have written
1
@JayBee-se8ou Sure that's how capitalism works. Bomb anyone who will not bend a knee to Uncle Sam. It started with the Spanish American war and continues today. Modern capitalism has replaced the strike inducing wage cuts with Central Bank inflation generated by playing with the number of dollars bills in the banks. The capitalist don't earn their money with voluntary transactions. The steal it by use of police and military violence aided by propaganda and a fiat currency. A fifty dollar gold piece is worth about $1700.00 today. Silver was removed from the Quarter and Dime because the silver became worth more than the face value. Even the copper in a penny became worth more than a penny such that the are now all pennies are aluminum coated with copper.
1
Who did the banks sell all their toxic assets to? The Federal Reserve bank of course. They traded in worthless paper for magnetic strips on a hard drive or federal reserve notes. As long as no bank gets greedy or bankrupt those paper values will remain locked in a bank vault. However capitalist greed and economics guarantee that once those notes start getting spent an inflation will begin with no end in sight.
1
Communism takes what the working class has built in a revolution that abolishes private property the property used to exploit others. Communism is a movement of the working class that began shortly after our birth form the beginnings of Industrial capitalism.
1
@JayBee-se8ou According to that youtube video it was taken just about when Milton Friedman came in to advise the old counterrevolutionary bureaucracy on what to do next. Where a "Real Socialism" could be created by issuing the workers saleable shares in their enterprises. Then they creating shock therapy such that those most corrupt exparty members could become the new capitalists buying up shares from those who just wanted to eat.
1
@JayBee-se8ou Professor Jay Bee you'll find out how good capitalism works when an inflation like that in Venezuela or post WW1 Germany breaks out. You man in Caracas Juan Guaido of the "Popular Will Party" is allied with the Second Socialist International. A group of Socialist in name only traitors.
1
@JayBee-se8ou Professor Jay Bee obviously the best slave is the one who thinks he is free. Without an upper crust or labor lieutenants of capitalism as Socialist Eugene Debs called them capitalism would be all that much weaker. The upper crust serves as the transmission belt for capitalist ideology. That's what's behind your taunting me "to get a job."
1
@JayBee-se8ou No doubt a New Jerusalem is just a few days or months ahead with either Trump, another Republican or a new 'socialist' Democrat leading the charge for bigger profits and a few more crumbs for the working class or so they promise.
1
@JayBee-se8ou "If you steal a dollar from me, there is still only one dollar. The math is simple." That might be considered true back when a dollar was made of silver or with a $50.00 gold piece. The math is no longer that simple. The reason being is the value of the dollar is determined only by the payment of US Federal state and local taxes for which only dollars are accepted as payment. The whole purpose of the Federal Reserve bank is to have a monopoly over the money used in all economic transactions with in the US. By law it belongs to all the nationally chartered banks. It sets both the reserve all the National Banks must have and the overnight interest rates between banks borrowing money from each other. It also provides a window where banks may borrow directly at a higher interest rate than the overnight rate. The Federal Reserve after a slight of hand using Treasury bonds basically orders the GPO to print or the Mint to coin money on demand. When it lends money at positive interest rates that means it must get back more money than it lent in the first place. The EU and Japan have already faced this problem and begun lending at negative interest rates. This raises a brand new problem of how to make a profit when your investment declines in monetary value as free money, money you don't have to pay back at a negative interest rate, is added to the economy.

@JayBee-se8ou People like you open up a lemonade stand and then propose that the real solution to everyones problems is opening up more lemonade stands or calling an investment banker. You only believe your income is solely determined by you actions as an individual. Capitalist politicians always talk about how hard work produces wealth. This is of course a big lie that must be eaten as good coin. Those who work the hardest are the agricultural workers who face the worst conditions and are the lowest paid. People who you ignore like the gas station attendant who lost his job to the auto pay at the pump. For you they are non persons who don't deserve the time of day. Another justification revolves around chance. A chance to be a small boss. A chance to be thrown in jail. A chance to be a Billionaire and a chance to be homeless. Of course the down side receives little discussion. Yes capitalism provides chance just like in a casino and the lottery tax. They have a mathematical science for chance and risk. It's called probability something most likely out of the English Professors realm of knowledge.

@SnarkierThan-U-R Where's Nancy Pelosi?
1
Keeping that coal from the end user is not what the bosses expected. This here is a real action of class struggle.
1
@itgetter9 I want to belong to a union that fights back instead of being told to keep your head down, some mumbo jumbo about past loses at arbitration, a promise to hire a lawyer and how I might get arrested.
1
@CorvusCorax. Miner win their pay. Coal Bosses must pay. https://themilitant.com/2019/11/02/blackjewel-miners-encampment-protest-wins-back-pay/

@emcemc7506 Ms. Clinton was in charge of setting up of a national health system during her husbands rein. She held meetings behind closed doors and ditched the effort saying the "Right Wing is too Strong." Medicare for All has become a slogan. What does it really mean? Current Medicare requires a monthly premium of about $125 per person and copays with medicare usually paying 80%. Medicare Advantage doesn't pay for every thing either. You can hand you medicare over to a private insurer and then you will find out fewer doctors will accept payments but you will get extra coverage. Medicaid is a patchwork of conflicting coverage and eligibility that varies from state to state.
1
@emcemc7506 The Democrats were the ruling racist party in the South. The Democratic Party in the North within the liberal city of Boston was behind the racist attacks launched against "forced Busing". Still having problems of keeping up? Well Joe Biden was also against forced bussing and admitted it saying so was everybody else. Everyone else who mattered in the Democratic Party that is, was behind the racist mobs in Boston and the burning of Busses in Louisville. .
1
@Derek No doubt he is because people like yourself are either bought off or lack the self confidence needed to see outside of the capitalist two party system. The media propaganda is ramping up for another meaningless choice between two party candidates.
1
No because then they'd just call the cops for a removal. Plus they live with others of their class nearby so they could not expect any help from the neighbors. The union rail workers aren't going to be driving over their brother coal miners any time soon.
1
Clinton like her husband would say anything to get elected. Those who voted for political correctness stayed home opened a can of bud and watched the election games on TV.
1
She was going to prepare them for low wage jobs that don't exist. Everyone in Kentucky and all the states with snow and ice are going to put up photovoltaic arrays right? Who's going to go up on an icey roof to clear off the photovoltaic arrays in the winter?
1
@kennyw871 I worked at Sparrows Point. The Mill used about one 1/3 of the electric power in Baltimore City. Think you can just put a few PV arrays and replace all the power needed to run basic industries and the rest of the power needed for manufacturing? I suppose you could put windshield wipers on PV using up energy or let everyone have paid snow days to stay home and keep the falling snow off your home PV. Remember PV peak power is at noontime corrected for the actual time the sun is directly overhead. You need to store the PV generated power to keep the lights on a at night. PV only works for middle class homeowners who haven't a clue about how much electricity needs to be generated to run industry.
