  160. Read the actual declarations (not just the ordinances) of secession by the seceding states at. (Not all wrote them) http://www.civil-war.net/pages/ordinances_secession.asp and you will see that succession was all about slavery. You can also see that in the Confederate Constitution where the most important difference is perpetual African slavery. The section 4 of the 14th Amendment "...neither the United States nor any State shall assume or pay any debt or obligation incurred in aid of insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or any claim for the loss or emancipation of any slave; but all such debts, obligations and claims shall be held illegal and void...." This would seem to prevent any aid to Confederate Soldiers. Although at least some former Confederate Officers volunteered and served in the Spanish American war and some Confederate soldiers are buried at Arlington and other federal cemeteries. The 1929 Law makes confederate soldiers eligible for grave markers. The 1959 law allows for some possible pensions. You can assume that may imply recognition as US soldiers but it's not an actual statement. Then section 3 of the 14th Amendment. "No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability." This is how former Confederate soldiers could serve in the Spanish American war.

  281. I looked at the beginning of the papers of the State, and the two sides involved I saw nothing about a catering service involved. You're probably looking at the friend of the court briefs or a question raised by the justices at oral arguments. The Deli could refuse to provide the sandwich by saying we don't make custom sandwiches. Just as McDonald's might refuse to make a 1/2 cheezburger. However at Burger King with them advertising having it your way I should be able to order a 1/2 cheeseburger at the whole cheeseburger price assuming they have a knife to cut it with. Could the Klan have a Black catering service provide food for their party? In general the courts have refused reverse discrimination cases. Plus the Klan of today is a pirah organization. If it got out that they were having a party of any kind they'd be swamped with picketers and protesters. The results of opening a religious exemption in public accommodation laws will be much worse than the possible use by the Klan or others might make of it. Their should be an exemption for artists but then you need to define art. When a painter copies a master's piece like Rembrandt that's skill but not art. When you write a novel that's art but the actual physical book or electronic copy is not except for possibly the front cover picture and the printing font. Now if you get a custom wedding cake based on pictures in a book that's not art but skill. Now if you ask for a message that won't fit on your cake well the cake baker can not do things the physical world prohibits. But changing Jane to John doesn't require artistic inspiration but an established skill. If you demand a NEW frosting picture of two men than as a custom cake baker you can refuse that as requiring the baker to have artistic skills.

  355.  @yourboysgottem202  As long as we have capitalism healthcare will be just another commodity that is bought and sold in a market place. Maybe its paid for with taxes. Maybe it's paid for by the individual or some combination their of. If insurance companies are in charge of healthcare they will always seek to maximize the profit like any other business. To prevent excessive fraud the government steps in for greed control. However because the government itself consists in politicians who need campaign funds the insurance companies are only to happy to make a donation. Few are willing to bite the hand that feeds them. The drug and medical apparatus business is quite profitable. However for business as a whole medical costs come out of profits. Like when the Coal Miner asked the Coal Boss which costs the company more a dead man or a dead mule. The Coal Boss replied a dead mule of course. We can always hire another man. We have to buy mules. As for taxes not all are equal here either. The wealth like to portray themselves as taxpayers because the like they sympathy that gets them. They of course can afford to pay those taxes without having to take on debt or make choices between seeing the doctor or going without some other basic need. They also think of tax money as their money to spend for what they want like the US Military's 800 foriegn bases protecting their foreign investments. The US government either taxes or goes into debt. If taxes don't provide enough revenue than they print up bonds. These bonds are seldom talked about because mostly those with money who should have been paying taxes don't pay taxes but buy bonds for a guaranteed profit when the 30 year bond matures. Another buyer of bonds is the Federal Reserve bank. At the beginning of the week the bureau of printing and engraving prints the bonds that will go to the US Treasury at the end of the week they will print Federal Reserve Bank notes (US Money) for the Federal Reserve Bank. So the Federal Reserve Banks now can now buy 30 year US Treasury Bonds in a paper swap with the US Treasury getting those Federal Reserve notes. Since the development of the computer a lot of money never actually appears as paper but as a record in a US national bank or Federal Reserve computer.

  365.  @avatarmezzy2980  I listened to about 30 minutes into the lecture. At about 2o minutes in it is clear that this is nothing but a way to further pauperise the unemployed by creating this so called all encompassing freedom benefit. The purpose is to save the capitalists and their government tax money. That's the only reason Shapiro doesn't go batshit with the usual taxation is theft and unions are collectivists thugs and so on. You can't have both capitalism and socialism because that is an extremely unstable situation. Lots of people think that their can be some kind of compromise. Just like the colonists problems with King George III and Chattel Slavery in the South. It took a revolution to rid the country of monachal idiocy and second revolution to do away with slavery. It will take a third to get rid of the Wall Street poker players and Washington's worldwide military dictatorship. Another one of our proposals is to have voluntary health care and construction brigades go to the poorer countries and help them build instead of more wars and catering to microsoft because Bill Gates isn't getting a $20 bill for every computer sold in China. One Third of humanity doesn't have electric lights. Cuba is doing this now and the reason they can do that and no other country in the world can is they had a revolution that made the working people of Cuba masters of their own destiny. That's the kind of revolution we are about. Not some new way to keep capitalism and these rich clowns in power. It costs about the same amount of resources for an unskilled worker to go to work each day as a highly skilled Doctor.

  444. @Dulcie Gray I'm 67 so I've had more time to read and think than you. So don't put yourself down. The Communist Manifesto was written in 1848 by Karl Marx for the International Workingmen's Association (First International). The European and American Socialist Parties of the Second International were founded around 1899. These parties were called all inclusive parties because they included anyone who claimed to be a socialist. So they would have Fabian socialist, Utopian Socialist, Reformists Socialist and Revolutionary Socialists. It was World War one (1914) that would definitely split all these Parties up between those for and those against the war although. After the success of the Russian revolution of Oct 1917. Other parties of revolutionist only would be founded as Communist Parties in the third or Communist International. In 1919 two Communist Parties were founded in the US the Communist Party and the Communist Labor Party. The would merge into one party but then change the parties name to the Workers Party for a brief time due to the Communist Party being illegal for a short time. With the death of Lenin in 1924 the Russian Party would begin to split eventually into Stalinists and Trotskyists over questions of Party Bureaucracy, Democracy and Policy questions. It may not be all that easy but you can find original documents from the time period by doing google searches. The American Trotskyist began publishing TheMilitant.com in 1928 after being expelled from the Communist Party of America and then founding the Communist League of America (left opposition). You can find .pdf s of the paper back to 1928 on TheMilitant.com website.

  474. @Robert Escher I don't think you know what your talking about. Their were many police state measures taken at the end of the 1940's through the 1950's. Things were much harsher back then. There were the Hollywood blacklists, the Taft Hartley law, the Attorney General's list of subversive organizations, the Smith (Gag) Act and Communist control act of 1954. Every where people wanted a job or government help people were required to sign or swear to government loyalty oaths. People were hauled before Congressional committees and were told that they must give the names of communists they knew. If you refused on 5th Amendment grounds you were given contempt of congress charges with a one year jail sentence. Most of these laws and the FBI's Cointelpro Programs were either found unconstitutional, unused or scraped by the early 1970's. A combination of the Cuban revolution, the Black rights fight, and the Anti war movement pushed back J Edgar Hoover's spies and their mission impossible tactics. Many of these tactics were exposed in Socialist Workers Party v Attorney General. after which a permanent Injunction was issued ending 40 years of FBI opened ended investigation and police state tactics. The reason they haven't returned to using these tactics is two fold. One is they are economically expensive with little to no return. The second is because they don't see themselves as needing them considering the political costs for those measures. if the class struggle heats up they may very well return to at least the secret parts of those measures because the real target of that kind of stuff is the trade unions.

  495.  @TheCannable1  Now let's try and put you in a socialist economy with cell phones. Do we need three (Sprint and T mobile have merged) different carriers and subcarriers? One carrier is all that's needed. You can buy phones that work on multiple carriers now. The cost of operating a phone or internet network is based on using the full capacity. It costs about the same to have the network carrying a full data load or no data at all. You can add towers or small 5G service in areas that are currently dead because you don't have to justify building out the network to make a required profit rate. Now when we build things we keep track of the labor time needed to make things. Should we charge you for the phone at more than the full cost of production or less than the full price? How about the cost of the data transferred? See the idea with socialism is taking things out of the market and making them available to everyone. Maybe we organize repair shops or maybe your phone goes into a machine that auto fixes it or maybe the phone is recycled somehow and you get another phone. What if the phone electronics and screen are all built in one process with non scratch and no break glass? Right now people drop phones and the glass in the screen breaks or the screen gets scratched and the battery eventually won't hold a charge. You can't fix micro electronic chips but only replace them. Good luck changing chips which are soldered to multi layer boards and getting everything to fit back inside.
