@Idalych Wages and Prices don't directly translate across currencies and countries. Even in the US the cost of living varies from state to state but probably the biggest factor is do you live in a rural area or a big city. Very few people who come here are on the pennies on the dollar scale with those people most likely in subsistence agriculture. They will eventually want the same wages as everyone else. Capitalism always wants competition to hold down wages whether its native born unemployed or new immigrants. You can't expect the government to be doing you a favor by grabbing people off the street for deportation. Neither Trump nor the Democrats want everyone deported or all immigration halted. What they want is more control and to split any working class fight back. @Idalych We don't want to encourage immigration but we must also recognize that immigrant workers are already here. We don't propose that the workers sit by while inflation saps our buying power due to the not so 'Invisible hand" of capitalism. We propose that the unions embark on an organization drive and create a new party of labor. Unions can push up the price of labor and decrease the exploitation of labor at the workplace while a new Party of Labor can fight in the political sphere for a minimum wage tied to the cost of living and increases in productivity. @Idalych I am not trying to put words in your mouth or gain brownie points. More than anything else I am trying to say is that we as workers must rely on our own organizations to prosecute the class struggle. We can't expect George Soros or the Koch brothers to solve our problems. We have to recognize that the workers and small farmers in the colonial world our are allies not our enemies. Politicians in Guatemala telling their people to march to the border is obviously irresponsible. The result being is they are now refugees at the Mexican side of the border. Still economics is not a fixed pie. Using profits to boost stock price instead of investing in things we need and building more close to useless things like nuclear subs and walls or digging ditches to fill them will not help. There should be no 70 hour work weeks while others go homeless and jobless. You should not need to work two or more jobs to support a family. If we do not have work for some reason then there should be free education and full pay until new work can be found.

@Idalych I don't want to put words in your mouth but my understanding of libertarianism is that seeks to reverse the direction capitalism naturally takes. Capitalism moves towards monopoly not small business. Competition within a capitalist country between different companies in the same market is usually settled peacefully through a court system. Competition between different capitalist countries and trade wars have lead to two world war. Prior to world war one Lenin had argued this was capitalism direction while Karl Kautsky argued no that the capitalists would see the destruction war would cause and instead unite into an ultra Imperialism.

I would argue that Ron Paul and others are quite sincere in their beliefs. I would also argue if you allow the blind rules of the market to take over you are courting world economic disaster. After the ashes of WW2 the US's geography allowed it to be the 'ultra Imperialism'. The US publicly said that the breakup of the Soviet Union and a restoration of capitalist relations was a victory. Richard Nixon warned then President George Bush it was not a victory without a Marshall plan to replace the old Soviet Union. Bush at the time said we don't have the money and that was the end of that.

@Idalych As far as classics go I have only a few pages of Das Kapal. One reason being is my generation was more involved in the national question (Vietnam and Black people) and what was the Soviet Union? So we would be more likely to read "Imperialism the Highest Stage of Capitalism" by Lenin. "Value, Price and Profit" as Marxist critique of capitalism and 'The Revolution Betrayed" by Trotsky at least that was my development. If I had to do all over again I would start with "Socialism on Trial" because it answers lots of questions and it doesn't suffer from any language translation idioms and age of writing style. ir is not a long winded book (pamflet) either because its actual trial testimony By James P. Cannon and the prosecutor keeps interrupting with a get on with it attitude.

@Idalych What is missing in your analysis is the role that a fighting union movement can play. Capitalism with its 'invisible hand' will continue as long as the workers in any country allow it. You can't wage class struggle at a ballot box when there is no real difference between the parties seen as 'major' and therefore the only real choice. Not only are capitalist police departments not going wage a class struggle for us but it will be waging a struggle against us regardless of what the shoulder patches say.

@joebloe7253 Refugees are leaving countries where the effects of 2008 are even greater. Sure if there are no jobs here then people will not come. The way capitalism works is people are constantly being fired and hired. So there will always be jobs here. The capitalists as a class always want to pay the lowest wage. They also control congress and the rest of the government so why would they pass a law to lower profits and then enforce it? Think about that question. Once you can understand the answer you will understand why it won't happen and if it does it will only amount to a few show trials. You might also want to think about who is an illegal immigrant? The laws are written such that only workers and the poor are or can become illegal. Lots of people can enter on tourist or other halfway visa's like H1B and H2A. Ms Trump eventually got a green card on an 'Einstein Visa".

@joebloe7253 We should focus on what advances the interests of our class. Not what advances the interests of the capitalist class. We need to rebuild our unions into a movement that can reverse the carnage caused by the capitalist crisis. The border open or closed is not our problem nor can we do much about it since we don't have government power. Our problem is organizing all workers not checking IDs or determining immigration status. You can see that the Yellow Vests in France are making a difference because Macron French "President of the Rich" is now addressing some of the problems faced by the French workers and has the support of 70% of the French people. @joebloe7253 You see the difference between me and you is you think the workers should rely upon the bosses government and the judges, cops and jailers who work for them. We propose that the working people act in their own self interest create their own organizations and take on the capitalists and their government. You propose reliance upon the good capitalists (who don't hire illegals) as opposed to bad capitalists (who hire illegals). I say they are both no good. They all benefit from lower wages, busting unions and unemployment.

Your proposals all assume a 'good government' will save us from what is wrong by hiring more cops and building more jails. It's a simplistic bureaucratic solution that has never worked for working people in the past and will not now either. Its the dream of the privileged who hope to find a way to reform the system without any serious struggle. People who are foolish enough to think the cops work for them and not the capitalist ruling class.

It's the Communist League of America that helped lead the 1934 Minneapolis Teamsters General Strike that opened the road for the CIO industrial trade union movement. A general strike that gave hope to millions during the Great Depression. This was all accomplished by working people on their own without any help from the capitalist government. In fact Roosevelt did all that he could to stop it (CIO) because it was costing the bosses millions in profits.

@joebloe7253 My original Social Security card said for social security and tax purposes only. It was never to be used for a national ID card. Once it became a national ID card it then became valuable. Now the names and numbers are stolen and where can a they be found? In every job application you fill out. So now frauds can steal the data by merely posing as employers seeking applications for jobs that don't exist and from there it is possible to create a second ID. Util recently certain SS# were associated with certain areas making it all that more easy to find and obtain a date of birth and a birth certificate. E verify can only check Names and SS# numbers and date of birth. Of course it could easily be expanded to include jobs where employers Soc Sec tax was collected and place of birth. That is a 1984 world where every mistake is recorded and checked by the employers. Government of the employers will then decide who works at what job and who doesn't. It will not create a system where you have a right to work but a system where you have the right to be a slave under the employers iron heel.

I know it's not easy maybe you should try temp work first from there maybe a regular hours job. Their is nothing wrong with washing dishes and cleaning the bathroom at the retail store. I've done it and so can you. I been a driver and any kind of driver almost always makes more than minimum wage. Get some experience and play your cards right and some company will give you free CDL training. Never drink and drive or use drugs as a driver.

So they can appeal and walk away with a $10 fine while sending out the cops saying, "Papers, Papers, Papers please."? They only way to reverse the carnage caused by caused by 2008 is to organize into a fighting union movement. No white hatted hero is going to ride to the rescue. Any and every political policy must be judged as does it unite the working people or does it divide us. You can't build a union movement based upon witch hunting other workers for immigration status. The cops are controlled by the capitalist government and thieves do not put each other in jail. The only time the capitalist government sends one of their own to jail is when they do something really egregious. Like the Ponzi scheme guy who stole billions of dollars from investors or when they are putting on show trials like the Russia investigation. They have enough laws to arrest anyone they want to now. You and me included. They don't need more laws. We need to organize and fight back like the Yellow Vests in France.

Reliance upon the bosses governments liberal or conservative will get nowhere. We need to rebuild the union movement to punch through the government lies that nothing can be done not getting into a debate between the liberals and conservatives who are arguing about open or closed borders. Either way is a distraction for what needs to be done which is organizing more unions and more protests like the Yellow Vest protest in France.

To raise wages we need a militant union movement which can organize strikes, protests ang get good signed contracts. To be the most effective movement we need to include all workers regardless of race, creed, sex, national origin, immigration status and eye color. Witch hunting based on immigration status can only divided us and make us weaker when strength is needed most. The two party politicians and their immigration police serve the bosses just as the rest of the police agencies do. The goal of their witch hunt is not to deport every immigrant with questionable status but to create a pariah class of workers for super exploitation to further drive down all wages.

@Idalych Wages will not rise with or without a wall. Its class struggle that pushes up wages. The whole effort to demonize immigrants as responsible is baloney. Money needs to be spent on infrastructure, schools, and medical needs. Those kind of expenditures will work to create jobs and more wealth across the economy. The wall will have the minimal effect of an effort to ID everybody. I know the are hiring to build more nuclear submarines but like the wall they are a waste. I also wonder why uniformed police greet job seekers at the Texas workforce commission. To me that implies that jobs are not plentiful. I was basically told here is a book with listings now go away. I don't call that help and I didn't go there to argue with an armed policeman or create trouble.

@Idalych Our politics start with the world and how to advance the class struggle. The working class in the US has always had an immigrant component. The capitalist have always tried to play one group off against another. Native born vs Foreign born. German v. Irish Irish v. Polish Black v. White Skilled v Unskilled. We can not win by expecting the capitalist government to do the work we need to do. History shows you can only win on a basis of uniting all workers not going on a witch hunt against the foreign born to help the unskilled. Thinking that the bosses will deport enough of the foreign born such that wages rise (all wages are set from the bottom up) is utopianism. They want to cut wages nor raise them and what better way than to create a pariah class that faces super exploitation or deportation.

The marxist internet archive has most of the classic pamphlets and TheMIlitant.com has a whole weekly newspaper archive back to 1928 with the founding of American Trotskyism. I am reading Che Guevara Economics and Politics in the Transition to Socialism by Carlos Tablada. You can find that at pathfinderpress.com I don't think we need to set up some special officialdom to get to socialism. I think it will be more about a transition in the way we think about each other and act as we organize throwing off the old ways and methods of capitalism. Much like the transition Black people went through when they threw off segregation and woke up to their own value as human beings.

@derrickcox7761 Too bad things aren't as simple as you make them out to be. Plus you have social systems mixed up with types of trade. You can trade though barter or with money. If you go someplace where people don't know what a US $100 dollar bill will buy they may not want to trade it for something as common as a dozen ears of corn. The might however trade those dozen ears for five potatoes. The advantage money has over barter is that it has a universally recognized value that can be conveniently divided. So instead of having to trade 5 potatoes for 12 ears of corn I can use 60 cents to buy either 5 potatoes or 12 ears of corn or a fixed price of 12 cents per potato or 5 cents per ear of corn. With rise of capitalism and the nation state most nation states have their own money. Merchants in one country are hesitant or may out rightly refuse to accept money from another country. Trade between the capitalist countries is carried out through use of banking trades of currency since companies and not countries do the actual trading. Trade in the Eastern bloc and Soviet Union was done by barter because barter is a much better way to keep track of agreed upon value traded between different countries enterprises.

How does voluntary labor fit in? Capitalism, Slavery, Feudalism, Socialism and Communism are five different social systems. So far putting two together doesn't work well. We haven't seen communism yet. It is assumed to rise peacefully out of socialism.

@derrickcox7761 No I don't think my definitions of social systems are overly broad. Since you like things simply put: Slavery is where a master own slaves. The oldest form of class society it still exists in remote areas or secretly. Feudalism is a step above slavery since peasants work three days for a lord master, three days for themselves and a seventh day for rest and church. Capitalism A class system where capitalist own the property needed to produce while a property less class does the producing for money wages that pay the worker to survive to the next pay period. This has been the most recent and is the dominate class system today. Socialism will replace the current system by eliminating private property in the means of production.and wage payments as the sole way in which to provide for the necessities of life. Communism a further extension of socialism with out any wages paid and only voluntary work.

Actually it is capitalism in the form of wealthy capitalist nation states ( The Imperailist nations: Those with the ability to export capital) that must compete which is the underlying economic reason behind 20th century wars. This was argued about by Karl Kautsky and Lenin. Kautsky predicted that the Imperialist nations seeing the utter futility of war would band together and implement an ultra Imperialism. Lenin said they would go to war with each other. The guns of August 1914 proved Lenin right.

In an effort to try and clear up confusion over the middle class and the bourgeois class. When King Louis XVI was king the bourgeois were the middle class. Once the King was eliminated the Bourgeois became the ruling class. The middle class today is made up of professionals (Engineers, Doctors, Professors, ect) and small businessmen. What Marx predicts is that this middle class sinks into the working class. That business size moves towards monopoly. That return on investment drops as machines replace labor. That the workers can not buy back what they produce. That capital replaces skilled labor first and labor become more simple yet more alienated.

@derrickcox7761 I have read a few pages of the larger volumes (Federalist Papers, Mein Kampf, and Das Kapital.) Read once through both Thomas Paine's Age of Reason and Common Sense. Everyone cites the Wealth of Nations for the invisible hand but seldom for the labor theory of value. A good explanation of revolutionary Marxism's in America is in the short pamphlet "Socialism on Trial". A number of free online texts are available at Marxists.org, weekly paper TheMilitant.com and for sale books at Pathfinderpress.com .

@derrickcox7761 I think the Cuban revolution shows both a workers revolution is possibly and that a Stalinist dictatorship is neither necessary nor inevitable. I don't expect belief but only consideration. As Lenin said Those who accept only the word of another are complete idiots who can be dismissed with a wave of the hand. Lenin's brother was a member of an earlier terrorist organization and executed for an attempt on the Tsar's life. He like all the leaders of Bolshevik party in October 1917 had been arrested, and exiled internally. Lenin was in Switzerland and Trotsky in New York in February 1917. .

She has even meet with the Cuban American National Foundation the main US organization for the gusanos. Name you political prisoners because their aren't any. The US is still holding political prisoners form the 1960's and 1970's. Black Panthers who J Edgar Hoover vowed to destroy with his Cointel program. You know the one where the FBI provided intel so the Chicago cops could murder Fred Hampton while he was sleeping in his bed drugged by an informant. How about the quilt of genocide which was withdrawn after it became know to have the names of people who died of natural causes or where still alive. The US also has both the largest number of prisoners both by number and percentage of the population. How about Ramsey Muniz. He was framed on drug charges and given life in federal prison. He is being held at the Federal Medical Center and they still won't let him go home on compassionate release.

The US is best at arresting the mentally ill, nonviolent drug users and then sending them to prisons. Economics, politics, race and class also play a role in who gets sent to prison. Given the choice of six months in jail for a plea deal or 30 yeas for a jury trail like the case of Aaron Schwartz which would you take?

@derrickcox7761 I am not really sure what you mean by connected. I comment on videos that I consider interesting. No one tells me what to pick or what to say. I'm retired so I have lots of spare time. I like a civil discussion or debate. I tend to stay from the Alex Jones and conspiracy types. Its hard to discuss much with people who believe the wold runs in conspiracy. . Subversion is usually a charge used against Marxists where a government claims communists are planing for a coup. When really we corporate out in the open as a legal party. This was augured out in 'US Federal Court for the Southern District of New York in Socialist Workers Party vs Attorney General' where professors were called as expert witness to the history of the Russian revolution, the US Attorney General was held in contempt however a higher court overturned his contempt citation and the Federal Judge issued both damages and a permeate injunction baring FBI interference in the Party.

We were the first come out against the bureaucratic degeneration of the Russian revolution starting 1928 before Stalin's Great Purge of the old Bolsheviks started in 1936. We were the first victims of the Smith 'gag' Act in 1940 used by FDR to advance what would become the US entry into the second Imperialist war. We fought against McCarthy and Truman's witch hunt and their Attorney Generals list.There was never a hearing held where any organization placed on the list was allowed to challenge Truman's Attorney Generals List. The real target of the second red scare was not the Communist Party but the unions and anyone who challenged the capitalist government policy like the rising Black rights movement.

His demagogy is meant to place the result of the 2008 crisis upon anyone bit those who like him profit from this rotten system. Cox talks a good line about freedom of speech but I'm the one who was arrested in the early 1970's for carrying newspapers down the street who was attacked by the police for handing out antiwar leaflets. Right now the ruling class has their police dogs on a short leach that is no reason to believe that they won't be let lose again.

@Idalych I'm never sure what it is that people are talking about when they say the solution is less government? Ronald Reagan? Lower taxes? Fewer police? Cuts in Social Security? Fewer government workers? Fewer laws and regulations? Local government is the largest employer followed by state and then the federal government. Plus how do you count government employees? Lots work is contracted out like road building and military weapons contracts. The US military has 1.3 million active duty troops and 800 foreign military bases. The one group of government employees we all deal with every day is the US Post office. They have about 1/2 million workers.

@mefit1 Won't work except to justify hiring more cops and additional police harassment of workers as a whole. Lawyers for Business' and corruption will create a way around such a law. It won't raise wages because business wants to hold down or lower wages not raise them. The overall result of such a law will be to create a pariah class of workers that impedes union organisation. The capitalist will pass an increased minimum wage and that will work because the workers enforce it. Strikes and protests will raise wages. The Yellow Vest protests in France show that that works.

@mefit1 Capitalism has an unforeseen problem the world is only so big. They run out of cheap labor. A large portion of the surplus value of the American capitalists is created here. Strike and protests are raising wages in China now. Cynics such as yourself will just be bypassed and ignored. Why because capitalism creates a working class. Class struggle has got us this far and it will take us all the way to a socialist revolution in the US itself.

@mefit1 Monarchy were it still exists in Europe is nothing more than a parade of clowns meant to enthrall the masses. In the Middle East the trend has been against monarchy not towards monarchy.
