Because profits come first. You can't protect private property without violence or the threats of violence. In the US healthcare is a profitable business for Insurance companies. It is run the way you would run GM. They set up things such that everything is delivered on a just in time basis. A close count is kept concerning the number of hospital beds, medical equipment, trained workers like nurses and doctors. You could train extra medical workers and have them working elsewhere but that would upset the labor market. You could have Doctor Engineers but who's going to pay for the cross training. The same goes for nurses they could also be cross trained as school teachers. People could be rotated around so they don't forget their training. That won't work with capitalism because employment is controlled by the bosses and they see most of healthcare besides their own as nonessential they can always hire the unemployed at the factory gate if a worker dies for whatever reason.

@apuuvah They could but don't do that because the ruling class thinks of government property and taxes as their property and tax money. They were not caught by surprise but the thinking of idiots like Rush Limbaugh Trump's medal of Freedom recipient. Limbaugh was still in the Protect Trump at all cost mode as late as March 13 when he was comparing the Covid 19 virus to a common cold CCP conspiracy with the Chinese supposedly laughing. The Democrats were just as culpable focusing on having this fake impeachment trial. Then there was this accusation of insider trading by Congressman back in January acting on the knowledge of this catastrophe in the making.

@tomoxfford With the victory of the 1959 Cuban Revolution the war on ignorance and disease intensified with an all island literacy campaign and the building of the first clinics in the countryside. No longer would education and health be something only for those with the money to pay but the right of all. That communist have taken over everything but the conservatives chat rooms. We lost an anti Stalinist Communist Intellectual James Burnham to Bill Buckley. We've lost other intellectuals also. Another capitulated for a professor job at MIT back in 1950 after rewriting his book on the 1929 Chinese revolution. The intellectuals can leave to become professors, engineers, accountants, lawyers and so on. Those of us who are workers can't leave our class. @Dulcie Gray I'm 67 so I've had more time to read and think than you. So don't put yourself down. The Communist Manifesto was written in 1848 by Karl Marx for the International Workingmen's Association (First International). The European and American Socialist Parties of the Second International were founded around 1899. These parties were called all inclusive parties because they included anyone who claimed to be a socialist. So they would have Fabian socialist, Utopian Socialist, Reformists Socialist and Revolutionary Socialists. It was World War one (1914) that would definitely split all these Parties up between those for and those against the war although. After the success of the Russian revolution of Oct 1917. Other parties of revolutionist only would be founded as Communist Parties in the third or Communist International. In 1919 two Communist Parties were founded in the US the Communist Party and the Communist Labor Party. The would merge into one party but then change the parties name to the Workers Party for a brief time due to the Communist Party being illegal for a short time. With the death of Lenin in 1924 the Russian Party would begin to split eventually into Stalinists and Trotskyists over questions of Party Bureaucracy, Democracy and Policy questions. It may not be all that easy but you can find original documents from the time period by doing google searches. The American Trotskyist began publishing TheMilitant.com in 1928 after being expelled from the Communist Party of America and then founding the Communist League of America (left opposition). You can find .pdf s of the paper back to 1928 on TheMilitant.com website.
