@ThomasSteed oh and also, you aren't 'so smart your emotions lack depth'. that's not a symptom of intelligence, its just a disorder in someone who happens to be smart. yes psychopaths tend test high on IQ, but many brilliant people have high empathy. The idea that intelligence=emotional shallowness is just an idea that appeals to the emotionally shallow.

@chelseachyannejessyyork she's fairly well known, used to write a lot anonymously about calling herself a sociopath. then got diagnosed as a psychopath - what's specific part makes you think she isn't?

@ThomasSteed Of course animals have social infrastructure. Ever seen a termite nest?

all fair points... but yall are being a little polyanna it seems - whether its their fault or not, untreated psychopaths are incredibly dangerous and often leave a trail of destruction in their wake. And most psychopaths won't get treatment without a court order. And even then they mostly just try to manipulate the therapist. This woman is a very rare case - most psychopaths don't WANT to get better. Watch the video of the mother with the psychopathic child on this channel if you want to see the other side of the coin. Good for her for working on herself, but the destruction she wrought before she got treatment... 'every 3 years my life would fall apart' - because she caused so much damage people kicked her out of their lives.

@chelseachyannejessyyork Just to be clear, in your case psychopathic traits resulted from brain injury - this is going to express somewhat differently from people who's psychopathy was inborn, so it may not be the best guide for understanding other psychopaths. Also I'm sorry for your pain.

Psychopaths love the idea that they're "apex predators", but a much better analogy is parasites. Psychopaths are a simpler organism (they are simply missing certain parts of brain expression) exploiting a more complex organism (empaths). A tapeworm exploits humans in similar fashion. Its not an apex predator. Its a parasite.
