It'd be great if you'd cover cases of Guerilla forces facing major empires through history - and which of the outmatched forces were able to secure victories against larger, better equipped armies. "Invisible Armies" by Max Boot I think argued that timing was crucial - organized empires defeated weaker professional armies that were beginning to coelesce under central governments (e.g. Europeans vs African monarchies) but could be frustrated by the guerilla warfare skills of less developed, less centralized powers (for example, the Comanche pushback of the United States frontier)
