Not only out of all the species has only one (as far as we know) had the intelligence to even leave the gravity well of Earth, it was only 2 nations of one particular culture/civilization among the hundreds on Earth that developed rocket technology and spaceflight. 2 countries of 1 single race/culture/civilization (ie West Eurasian/European civilization, led by the United States and the USSR) achieved space travel independently. And much of that technological progress was driven by a delicate balance between peace and war. Most cultures were not able to achieve that balance. This has nothing to do with any kind of supremacy or ideology, it's just the facts. China did not go to space independently, nor the Aztecs, nor India, or Persia, or Greece, or the Ottomans. It was only the United States and the Soviet Union/Russia (building on German technology). Everybody else got to space after the fact with the support of those 2 countries (3, indirectly counting Nazi Germany).

  23. It's not a matter of ego. The relative abundance of elements in the universe skews towards very particular molecules and chemistry. If life is out there, it will be fundamentally similar to life on Earth, like being based on carbon, and utilizing the same organic molecules and probably even RNA and DNA.
