I'm so sorry to hear that. I married very young, 17, and in Australia you could still "just" afford a house that needed work. I did wait until only my youngest went to school before going to university. And I took my youngest with me, why not? My daughters delayed university until they had their first child, and took their babies with them, and I provide daycare.
I don't know about Britain but here a husband is not responsible for his wife's student debt, and the wife doesn't need to repay until her income is over about $60,000.
In the end, I didn't get an actual job outside the home. We had enough house equity to buy a big old Victorian house that needed work. And I used my degree as a social worker to open what you would call a care home, for ten to fifteen year Olds. I took five at a time, but about sixty over all. I had the highest reputation. No boyfriends (except at chaperoned events) no smoking, drinking, drugs etc.
