  1. In Australia I have linked the women's liberation in the 60s and 70s to mass immigration. Married women going out to work in the 70s - * Trippled the tax base, mum, dad and the babysitter. * Suppressed wages without decreasing consumerism * Doubled the value of housing. Government and the rich and powerful could only do it once however. But in the 1990s they discovered they could replicate it with mass immigration.

  2. Good for you. But fifty percent of women who are childless at thirty will always be childless. Waiting until thirty should not be encouraged

  10. 100%. In Australia retirement has risen to 67. But bricklayers and roofers can't work to that age, and most didn't finish highschool and unlikely to retrain. They live in abject poverty living in cars.

  11. As a Gen X we did not grow up with any optimism. We were latch door kids who knew that at any moment nuclear apocalypse and dystopia were likely to occur.

I confess I'm Australian but while British women, like my mother in law, were depending on midwives on bicycles, my grandmother was giving birth in hospitals, not for free, but affordably. We have socialised medical care, but it's not free. And many immigrant visa's do require the immigrant having private health insurance.

  22.  @angelmartin7310  There's a huge body of research on this. No most of them wanted children. But they were encouraged to delay motherhood and spend (waste?) their 20s on education, establishing a career and one night stands. Then they realise their fertility is slipping, but they are unmarried and the best men are all taken. I recommend the YT documentary, birth gap.

  23. There's two major differences between the population decline of mediaeval plague and what's facing us now. A) The plague didn't just effect the young, it effected the elderly as well. B) Most importantly, there were no old age pensions in the Middle Ages.
