This is NOT getting your voice heard as an independent sovereign nation. Ursula von der Leyen won her bid to become the President of the European Commission because she was the ONLY candidate on the ballot paper - EU-style "Democracy at its finest!" Under the provisions of the EU treaty, the Commission has the sole right to propose EU legislation, which, if passed, is then binding on all the EU member states. So basically the U.K. has to abide by EU legislation that we didn’t vote for. This would be similar to the House of Lords, voting for one political party to stand for election and that party being the only party on the ballot paper, like a one horse race.
