He wanted to be the first on Mars. When he was in his 40s and saw that wasn't going to happen he turned to the sea. I think he was using the submersible for business/research. Since there are a lot of undiscovered species at the bottom of the ocean esp on the Titanic I think he would eventually try to discover them and probably name them all after him. He would have been the first to find these species. Also its odd he didn't learn from the Titanic but he was married to a woman who was the great granddaughter of a couple who perished on it. Now the wife has another family member that perished connected to that ship. I have no doubt his wife could have tried to warn him too but he knew best.

@lizvtaz6 Rush was also a businessman so hewas good at persuading people. He also gave the impression that NASA, Washington University and Boeing assisted in the design and testing of the craft. All three establishments have said their involvement was exaggerated.

@garyslomczynski6579 He actually believed his lies. He was deluded

@magyaradam He wasn't woke. He used any excuse to hide the fact that he didn't want anyone questioning his ideas and creations

@FyaaahS I'm not saying that the people who went on were forced or didn't make a mistake. I'm only pointing out that Rush went out of his way to make the submersible seem more safer than it was. I have no doubt he actually believed it, but what he said and who he said was involved gave that illusion. On his site it said NASA, Washington University and Boeing assisted with testing and the design of the vessel. All three establishments said their involvement was exaggerated.

@FyaaahS Even though Rush made people sign waivers and said the submersible was experimental he gave the impression it was just a formality. A father/son duo who backed out due to safety said Rush told them his vessel was safer than crossing the street and flying

@linanicolia1363 He exaggerated the involvement of NASA, University of Washington and Boeing, in testing and helping with the design of the vessel which would give people some sense of "safety" about the vessel. He also told two people who backed out that the vessel was safer than crossing the street, flying and scuba diving

@georgevavoulis4758 I wish Rush survived and had to face the ridicule, punishment, lawsuits and medical issues from the tragedy
