  1. It's a pity that magnetic tape isn't in use much for recording sound any more, because there... is the best metaphor to explain telomere. Telomeres are the leader tape on the end of you DNA (and we need to go open-reel here, 'cus cassettes don't make it to metaphor stage 2) Over time it gets all wrinkly and crumpled up and flakes away until there's none left and you start chewing up the ends of the tape. Honestly go ask an obsolete-sound-media nerd (there's loads of them around) and you'll see the telomeres.
