@FrozEnbyWolf150 another bad part though is that yes the growing season might be extended, but the nutritional value of what’s grown will be less and less. This is why those “but more carbon good for more growth!” idiots are so wrong.

Yup yup yup! Very similar this animals that have calcium carbonate shells. The shells will most likely still grow, *yes*, but they’re incredibly weak. The example I always use is cooking a frozen meal like nuggets or something. You can crank the heat up very very high and the outside of the nugget will feel very hot, but that inside is still cold.

This is why I hate when people act like the crisis and lives are only hurt once we hit 2 degrees or whatever. It’s happening *now*. People and animals and plants and insects are suffering *now*.

And here I thought it was gonna be a party

@therationalnational nah I get it don’t worry. Turns out “I can tell you how ocean acidification works and what it’ll mean in the future” isn’t a great response to “what’s your party trick?”

Love a feedback loop

@goodeye6373 yeah the main misinformation with ocean acidification is that the pH will lower to such a level that like the human body will be able to notice the difference. It’ll still be swimmable, but life will suffer and struggle due to the reasons other folks have mentioned !

@justicericketts2912 oh do tell me, an ecologist.

@justicericketts2912 and think about all the fossil fuels burnt to make the plastic, all the shipping involved in white vegan diets. Think about how long and improbable it is to make enough people go vegan to make an actual difference. Think about all the folks that can’t do a vegan diet. Think about the fact the oil industry wants this. Think about how it on a timescale, individual veganism will not make the impact soon enough at all. Individual actions are nice and helpful, but they are not the fix. Think about that before your smug white veganism.

@justicericketts2912 think about all of the shit were already in lock for, think about all the effects on plant life that will happen regardless if a 100 people go vegan. Put your energy into enacting the change that is actually needed to really change things.

@justicericketts2912 it actually takes a significant amount of energy to produce the vegan diet. You’re also ignoring that veganism is a “solution” within the system. You’re so brain dead and hyper focused on this(because you want brownie points) that you’re ignoring all of the extrapolations that have been mentioned. You’re so far up your own ass that you’re talking down to actual scientists who are begging you to stop putting all your chips into this vegan utopia that cannot and will not exist.
