One thing that has bugged me is that a lot of zoomers and leftists are kind of dismissive of 9/11 and the trauma it inflicted on people and experiences people lived through, that bugs me. I’m in no way endorsing all the jingoism involved around it or denying the horrid response to 9/11 and all the pain and suffering caused by us in the Middle East either. It’s all bad

@alexdelarge9425 yeah no I agree, using it as if it’s still a justification for anything or wasn’t used as the reason to invade and cause massive upheaval in the Middle East and hate crimes at home is outrageous. Definitely agree. Just the human element on a personal level I guess is more what I mean

@Sweet6T9 thank you!

@amalgamousgoat6217 you can do all that, but if you’re jokes about it only come if someone is trying to talk about it in a genuine way and you go “oh god yeah I know, 9/11 blah blah” that’s not right either? You can walk and chew gum at the same time. All the shit that happened post 9/11 is bad and horrible, not denying that, but going out of your way to be dickishly and coldly dismissive of it gives off big “main character and what about my traumas” energy. You can’t desire empathy for your traumas and then deny it to others because it’s been long enough? Wtf is that. You grew up hearing it and live in a world shaped by it, yes, I know and that sucks. But we did too? It’s my earliest memory watching a shirtless man in khakis jump out of the building, that’s fucked and a lot of people experienced a lot worse(again, lots of hate crimes and racism and bigotry towards anyone “brown” after and that’s absolutely wrong). Ffs. Be curious, not judge mental and dismissive.

@twilotealeaf1714 yup! Traumas exist and they will continue it. Remembering and validating it, without using it as a tool to advance racist/bigoted goals, is perfectly fair and valid. Trauma is trauma.

@mousearson9053 I’m not saying there isn’t rationale behind it, like I get it. It’s all I’ve grown up with and I don’t make some big deal of it either, just don’t go out of your way to be dismissive if people mention it in a genuine/human impact/non jingoist justification for racism, type way ya know?
