So clearly, we have to increase our defence spending in ways that protect us from the obvious threats we face - cyber attacks on industry and infrastructure, and on physical attacks that can be conducted at long-range, such as attacks on undersea cables. But we also have to consider whether we want to contribute to the physical defence of Europe or are we going to turn our backs on Europe completely? I voted to remain in the EU, but accept that the vote was narrowly won by those who wanted to leave the EU to reclaim our sovereignty. We can be a sovereign nation and still co-operate with our neighbours to put down mad dogs like Putin, but is this something we want to do? It seems to be a discussion for Parliament, but one that needs to happen very quickly as Putin is emboldened by the support he is receiving from the USA.
