Your experience is of Tenant Farmers; farmers who actually work the land. The land owners who have bought farmland to avoid inheritance tax wear much fancier clothes.

As one of the other commenters said, I think we have to separate 'farming' from 'agricultural land owning'. One is hard work and produces food and employment, the other is easy (if you are wealthy) and produces nothing.

It would be great if everyone in the UK could afford to buy a warm winter coat that would last a long time for, say, £300. Sadly, they cannot. We need our society to be more equal in terms of wealth and while I don't like Inheritance Tax, until we are very much more equal, I think it is a necessary evil.

Wanting to provide a good life for your children is a very natural and human thing to want to do, but land owners have to accept that there can be no exceptions made for privilege.

That is a good question. Labour's communications seems to have been woefully inadequate. I was hoping that there would be more communication from the Labour party as to why the government policies were a good idea.

This ability to be kind is important. There is a need to be kind to the real farmers in the UK, who work extremely hard, running businesses that are complex and financially challenged, but we don't need to be kind to the privileged and the entitled.

The small family farms are all too small to pay IHT. The introduction of IHT will cause land prices to fall. A farm that was worth £5m today and would require IHT to be paid will be worth less than £3m in future so no IHT will be due. Richard addresses this apparent contradicition in an earlier video about this policy change.

Yes, it's curious how there are no private emergency and accident departments in the UK. I hope that this remains the case.

Sounds like a good plan.

The wealthy person's instinct not to part with their money is a financial lesson we could all do with learning. Most money coming into a family is hard-earned, and hence we need to respect it and not fritter it away.

More like £350 according to Barbour's website.

Phasing changes in would be better in many cases; especially for the change to add VAT to private school fees because the children involved might be settled in their school. But the problem all political parties have is that their opposition will probably reverse the change as soon as possible, and therefore, to get the financial benefit of the change, it has to be made early in the parliament. If the Tories would agree to keep the change for at least 10 years, Labour could agree to it being phased in.

@rfrisbee1 Inheritance is 'fair' because during my life I pay tax at every turn; I pay it when I earn money., when I save money, when I invest money and make a return on the investment, I pay tax when I buy goods and services. At the end of my life, whatever I have managed to acquire legally (and paid the tax I was required to pay), I should be allowed to give it/leave it to anyone I want to.
