  1. There will always be debate about whether a government should do something or not, but there are some fundamentals that all prosperous societies rely on. The rule of law, courts and legal protection for property owners, defence, social services to care for the ill and disabled, immigration control, regulation of critical services such as banking, building, industry and transport are all vital. Stopping all of this, at once, is crazy. Swamp or no swamp, you don't take needless risks.

  3. It's a worryign time to be a federal employee - not only might you lose your job, but you might also have nightmares because you know what your job does for ordinary Americans.

  4.  @tarquin161234  I don't think anyone is arguing that Musk didn't have the right to fire anyone who worked for X, but taking the same approach with the US Government is just reckless.

  6.  @superkang7448  One might even argue it isn't even an error. It's part of the designed behaviour of the system. It doesn't mean that the claimants are 200 years old. It just means a valid date isn't held on the system. You could stop their payment until you can obtain a valid date, but it doesn't indicate fraud, or 'swamp' or anything Musk says it does.

  8. Richard is one of those people who likes to think about the future and help other people understand what is going on in the world. Trump and Musk are delivering change at an unprecedented and untested pace. The probable effects of this is interesting to many people, especially those like yourself who will be badly affected by it.

  12. Some change was necessary, but dismantling the whole government, in a matter of months, will lead to incredible problems. Surely an intelligent person would have done some research and thought about what needed to change? As Richard points out. Musk is breaking everything as quickly as he can. Mistakes will be made needlessley, and vast amounts of value destroyed. It's a social experiment without parallel. I'm not sure I want to be one of Musk's white mice.
