  1. Actually many ordinary people in the West and in Ukraine want Russia to suffer some more before negotiating a settlement. Russia has behaved abominably, commiting war crimes against an innocent civilian population. I say let the killing stop as soon as possible. Let neither Ukraine nor Russia suffer any more than necessary.

  2.  @Дмитрийоколов-ч8щ  We have plenty of firewood, but in the UK, most Gazprom contracts require payment in Pounds Sterling and are written under UK law. So, if the contract doesn't allow one party to change the currency that payment is required in, Gasprom can't force UK customers to pay in Rubles. All it can do is stop supplying gas. The same might be true in German. I don't know how their energy market works. No Gas, no Rubles and no hard currency.

While I agree that you cannot trust Lavrov, if the Ukrainians say that they will agree to someothing one day, and then change their position, it might indicate that some outside influence is occuring. Lavrov doesn't know that it is, and I hope that it is not. It's almost certainly another Lavrov lie, but if not, Ukraine is a free country. It should make its mind up itself.

  4. In some cases, his lies are proposing an alternative view. If he were trustworthy, this alternative view might have merit, but he has lied so often that even if he is right, no one will believe him. We need Lavrov to remain as Russia's Foreign Minister for as long as possible. With Lavrov on the stage, we all know that he is lying. A new Putin mouthpeice might be beleived for a few weeks.
