@JetBirdZ Which is why regulation of the field is important. Countries that refuse to regulate risk condeming humanity to oblivion.

@tylerhood5035 I agree that the rich will not care enough to provide everyone with a basic income they don't need us to do work, but there is nothing to stop us from providing each other with a basic income IF we have the means of production. Therefore we have to prevent the rich from taking the means of production from us.

Adapting is the super-power of the human race. There is plenty of potential to adapt to how robots and AI will change the world, but we need to ensure that humans are always in control. There has to be an 'Off' switch somewhere, even if this is controlled by humans we don't like or trust.

And wrong. There are tasks that robots already do better than humans can. AI can already think thoughts that no human could have thought because the human mind isn't that flexible. This capacity is only going to increase exponentially. The answer is not to assume that robots and AI will destroy humanity but to ensure that it does not, by thoughtful regulation.

Given that humans are programming the possibility of consciousness, it would seem sensible to also program a requirement for conscience.

@tracy419 I think there is a clear risk that we might create something that is capable of wanting to destroy us. My feeling is that we have to build in safeguards to try to avoid this and to shutdown the system if necessary - an 'Off' switch, if you will.

If they learn from the human race, they will learn to be narcissists UNLESS we ensure that they cannot do this.
