The Donbas is important to Ukraine because of the gas gas reserves that lie beneath it and Mariupol is importnat for the Azovstal steel works and the port, but Ukraine could survive and prosper if Donbas (and Crimea) was seeded to Russia. It would be a hard decision for President Zelensky to make, but he might do so if he felt it was the only way to create a lasting peace with Russia. If the Ukrainians decide that a lasting peace with Russia is never going to be a reality, they will retake Mariupol. It might take a year, ten years or a century, but they will retake it while they remain at war with Russia. The Russia economy will be crippled if they can't either take over the whole of Ukraine or agree a lasting peace with it.

The Russian army has paid a heavy price for being so useless.

When will Russia accept that they are wrong about the Azov Battalion?

Ukraine won this war on 24th February 2022 when Russia lauched its illegal invasion.

So basically the Russians are reducing their aspirations because their military is not capable.

The decision makers aren't ordinary people. It is the excutive teams at companies that innovate that are driving the additional capacity demands. If the want the power, let them pay the true cost of generating and distributing it.

Chemical weapons might work well, but they won't kill any NATO troops. There are no NATO troops in Ukraine.

Russia cannot 'win' this war, so there is no point being please that Mariupol has fallen.

Ukraine will seize Rostov-on-Don and hold it to ranson until reparations are paid.

If Ukraine have Neptune missiles, they might not even need subs to destroy all of the Russian Black Sea fleet. The bill for Putin's war is heading to the stratosphere.

@normanrichardson2314 The Russian economy is still doing ok, but this is because Russians need to eat and buy things that are made in Russian. The sanctions that the world has imposed on Russian don’t affect food, agriculture, and health directly, they do target import and exports, and anything that might be used for military purposes. The currency isn’t strong because no one wants or needs Rubles (unless they live in Russia). Imports and exports are down generally because Russia has shown it cannot be trusted.

I think that is probably a little too far from the truth. He's a politician, a millionaire, and has been grappling with Ukraine's corruption and "right wing" elements since being elected . He's tough, brave, articulate and resourceful, a great war leader, for sure, but a saint? No.

"Slava Ukraini" has fewer words.

Don't forget the Putin is the comedian in this conflict. He has made all the mistakes.

Russians seem to only know how to destroy. 😪
