I Love Cali, there are so many interesting place in the north to visit, I always wondered how they survived?!🤷🏻‍♂️ They talk about over population but there vast tracts of empty land from Cali through to BC Canada. There should be land giveaways to the younger generation or older ones wanting to build a community. Maybe there’s a billionaire out there who would help with infrastructure, the locals and new arrivals work for the community corporation and get a plot of land for free. That’s how it was done in the not so old past. At war times it was done and to build a country it was done, there seems to be these small communities already growing slow, but a town can not rely on tourism exclusively ( I’m in one that makes money off it, but it is a pale comparison to how it was 20 years ago)its seasonal. The forest rights for plots logged would have to be looked at, a % of timber milled would have to go towards building structures local and replanting. I’m sure there is an ecological restoration already at work. We do it up here in BC canada and 65% of our lumber goes to the US. If Cali/ Trump put a tariff on our lumber coming into the US your community harvested timber would be worth more… I guess you may ask yourself why would I suggest to but tariffs on our timber? We have very few mills left because we sell the raw product to the US and China, and our forests are crown land that pick and chose who logs them, that being large global corporations. Ever wonder why Canadians go south to buy products when our dollar is at 68 to 72 cents on the dollar? Because our commodity boards put restrictions of products coming into Canada, grain, dairy, meat, all artificially inflating our prices. Canada is the biggest exporter of oil to the US, and our gas is more expensive than the USA. Most can’t afford gas these days. Tariff the fuk out of Canada, we’re taxed into oblivion by our own government… and Biden and our little potato head leader stopped a pipe line that could have benefited both countries… nope you like that terrorist oil from over seas.
