  11. Kia Orana Peter, these islands are part of Māori exploration (Samoan)and extends to were I live in the Haida people on the west coast of Canada, to Rapa Nui and South America. Extremely interesting history and travels their people have made. Ask yourself why were all these farms shut down? Labour laws from the US made it unprofitable..and a tsunami. The thing is the Polynesians(Māori) brought these plants and others (taro)with them thousands of years ago. I’m a little questionable about these land claims, if none of your people want to go back to the land/ocean what’s the point of having the land? I respect the culture but you live on a remote island and are dependent on goods coming in, that vehicle you drive was shipped in that hat and tee shirt is from China, the lumber used to build the home Kai lives in probably came from here on the mainland, you live in a million dollar home… I’m on an island and grew up as a kid on smaller island that my family has property there today. Elders in there 70/80 with no power and had a well or rain water. They had to bring things in on a ferry and then a small boat to our island. We ate the shellfish and caught fish just like your grand mother, hardy resourceful people. And you’re angry that others are moving in and goods are coming in?! You benefit from this, why the fak aren’t you out getting food with your family when your grandma was doing it a hundred years ago? You’re getting a little long in the tooth(like me) bro.. I see land that could be growing crops or have a few animals to raise and get food from. But you didn’t and go on about the elders talking to you and the birds talking to you. You live in paradise, food is plentiful now.. and opportunities for your youth are there or on the mainland or other islands just like your ancestors did.
