Ken Wells Hi Ken. There are very few places, where ancient rock is still in existence. Most of the tectonic plates are moving a couple of centimetres a year, towards subduction. Where the rock becomes molten, again. To come up as new rock, where there are volcanoes. Other young rock, is from erosion, layering, pressure, and time. For example, look at shale, and sandstone. Then there is old broken rock, mixed with newer rock, time, and pressure, gives marble etc. Sorry, I’ve forgotten the basic categories of rock. But if you read a bit on it. The geological world, becomes a fascinating place.
To us all rocks seem old. Until you understand the basic process of it.
