  1. Wow, the therapy bit hit home. My ex wife saw three different therapists for years. We both ended up miserable. She is so scared, to let anyone get close. I felt her pain, and didn’t know how to reach her. After 28 years, she divorced me. Now she has a drinking and gambling problem. I’m much happier now, in my life. But can’t shake the feeling of letting her down. We had so much potential. The whole self accountability, and leaving the emotional garbage behind, is crucial.

  2. I’m totally with you. My wife has a really strong fear of abandonment. She can go into a panic/rage, with the slightest trigger. Then be fine for days. It’s about understanding the signals, and the internal processing.

  3. Strange what trauma creates in us. You managed a job, that no ordinary person could do. So many of the amazing relationship therapists, are the children of holocaust survivors. As it hurt you, it also gave you great strength. Now it’s time to heal your heart. ❤️

She is more accepting of my touch. She is being courageous, in acknowledging the need for change. Opening her heart. It's baby steps, as a result, I feel safer to voice my needs.

  25. My luck, I have two wonderful adopted children, and a loving step son. They are all young adults now. (The good part). 13 years into my second marriage, and my wife still fears me. Fear as in scared to open up, and be vulnerable. Based upon her previous relationships. (The frustrating part).

Sometimes I hike on my own, to be in the real world, the grandest cathedral ever. This interview, now has me thinking of my son.   38. Has anyone read, A Therapeutic Journey? I’m wondering if it’s good for me. I’m 64, happy with life, and love people. But I’m not very good with asserting myself, with authority figures. (Asking for things). Have always found crying, so hard to access. Want to be touched intimately/sexually by my wife.

  40. Feet! I did an 11 day hike with my daughter and her friends. The Teva’s lasted two days, the barefoot shoes made the rest. I play tennis barefoot. Last year went 14 kms in the snow, up Garibaldi ridge and back, barefoot in my shorts. The year before any of this, lost 25 lbs, eating simple healthy cheap unprocessed foods. 64, and healthier than in a long time.

He talked of military buildup, China is the most aggressive, scaring its neighbours, and the world. Forcing them to expand their militaries.

  43. The feeling of being “god”, of being a part of everything. While at the same time an immeasurably small speck. Is nirvana. My favourite moment last year. Was lying naked on the mossy forest floor. In a secluded place. Surrounded by natural sensations. One with life energy.

  44. It can go the other way. Im also in my 60’s, working all the time, post divorce, getting enough together to survive. When I can no longer work. When I heard that a childhood buddy had had a stroke. It was an epiphany. Now I’m working half time. Have been camping and hiking with my grownup kids. Went over to help Rob and his wife, reconnected with the old gang of friends. Around his recovery, and the other old guys. We were all just distracted by jobs, kids, and working life. Reach out, I’m glad I did.

  45.  @P9rkour90 Yes she did, divorce me. I would have done the same, I was lonely, and miserable. She saved my life, I was dying there. My life is so much better, I am far happier. She still makes me sad, though. When I see her. She now has a drinking and gambling problem.

  46.  @angelaa7388  So true, we need to love ourselves first. Before we can truly love, and open up to others. I'm finding that now. On a side note. My grandmother left her nasty husband, at 50-51 years of age, with nothing. To go out on her own. Working as a cook in logging camps. She married the love of her life. My mom did the same, at the same age. Dad was overcome by his controlling jealousy, and killed himself. He intended to take her with him, but she escaped. To remarry, someone who adored her. From a position of emotional strength. I was also 51, when cast adrift. Her family was my family, my home, and my work. Yes I remarried, a similar kind of person. Who is scared to let me in. (and safe for me, to play my rescue others role). After 12 years of being frustrated with each other. We are opening up our hearts and minds, and finding something much deeper. It's taken me 64 years, to find enough acceptance, to feel free. The difficult times, are teaching you.
