@alias6989 It takes a lot of courage, to say that to your parents. So yes to your question. Of course he is confused, but feels strongly enough, to communicate.
A lot of patience, a safe environment, and a lot of talk, would be required. I'd be proud as a parent, to know my child feels safe enough, to talk to me about a difficult topic.
He could also say, I hurt someone, I'm in a gang, I'm doing drugs, my gf is pregnant. If your child is scared of you, they won't tell you. The chance to help them through difficult times, may be missed.

I’m not sure what century you are living in. But native people today. Like to have, heated houses, manufactured clothing, store bought food, cell phones, trucks, water treatment, property development.
There isn’t room for all of us, to go back to the woods.
So, the next best thing, is to do the best we can do, with what we all have.
A modular reactor, could prevent, the damming of a few rivers. The slave labour, for solar panels. Or all the heavy metals in wind turbines. That would be fantastic.
