Having been recently to Taiwan, before HK, and China. With family in China. Taiwan culture, is amazing in contrast. The people are polite, and grounded. It is a high trust, and considerate society. Of course it isn't ideal, no place is. The Chinese and others there, did not experience the soul crushing Mao era, onward. My wife is visiting family in Beijing right now. She is meeting up with old school, college, and work friends. She is very disappointed, in what they re all interested in. Money, seems to be the only thing they care about. It's like they have lost their soul. Another thing about Taiwan, they keep a low profile. If you speak out, china has a hammer, cuts you off. I could not find any pro Taiwan T-shirts, no Taiwan for ever, Taiwan freedom, kind of things. Only saw the flag, on a few places. But , don't mistake that, for a lack of pride, and determination.
