Another related aspect. We recently visited Taiwan. The people are grounded and polite. They seem to have a connection with their past, and a cultural depth. The Mao era, didn’t tear apart their culture. Leaving them in a state of shock, for dictatorship, to demean them.
After, my wife went to her home town of Beijing, for a month. She was appalled, at her old friends. They had no souls. The conversation was always around, food, possessions, and money.
She did exclaim, that the Taiwanese were much nicer, than the Chinese. A high trust society.
Taiwan is the hope, for China’s future.
As an example.

So on point.
At 61, I’m hearing about old friends, having serious medical issues.
The last 40-45 years, I’ve had my head down, working all the time.
I quit 2/3 of the folks, I worked for. Called these old guys, and said, make me a list, of what needs fixing. I’m coming over.
Best decision, I’ve made for a long time. It rekindled, old friendships, and feels great.
After the bad fires this year. We are now having, horrendous flooding, in BC.
I met some people who, have been off their farm for three weeks.
The minute they can get back on there. I’m dropping everything, to head out to help.
Way better, than working for rich people. Who complain about spending anything, on their rentals.
So what, if I slowly burn through my savings. We don’t know, how many good years, we have left.

@tomfrazier1103 I'm married into a Chinese family, and have been to China. There is a really strong sense of, being victims of the west, Japanese, mongols, (but not Mao), promoted by the government. Most of their hardship, was self inflicted. But, they don't see it that way. Causes a huge insecurity, from anything that makes them lose face. Resulting in, a bravado, that justifies just about anything. When the Philippines, Japan, or other, complains of the CCP incursions into their waters. They howl with indignation. Any CCP government action against others, seems justifiable. Their fishing fleet, is wiping out the oceans fish. That's ok, as long as "we" get it. Answer to your question, a power, control, crazy government, with a compliant population. That will revolt, if not well fed, and making money. They need to secure, cheap food, and cheap resources.
Any successful democracy, like Taiwan, or the USA, is a big threat, to the criminal organization running China. So has to be dealt with, by whatever means possible.

My Canada experience is, we like to complain. I’m sure lots of people have bad experiences. For me, I’m forever grateful, for our medical system. My wife and now adult kids, have been to countless specialists. My parents, had fantastic care, including the care home. Those final years, in your 90’s, can go on for quite a while. The surgeries, and care that I’ve had. Has always been prompt, and professional.
For a few extra % on my taxes, and some medication costs. Just the peace of mind, of not having to worry about access or cost.
Is priceless.
My wife had three bowel surgeries as an infant, megacolon. I was three months premature, in 1960.
We were damn lucky, to be born here.
I’m self employed, with no special coverage, just a care card in my pocket.
According to the “news”. The system lost a number of over worked staff, during Covid. That some areas have wait lists. Small towns, are short of Dr’s, because of a wave of retirements.

@alu1706 It can be quite the rabbit hole. Two weeks before my 60th birthday. My Chinese wife asked what I want. I said, no gifts, no party, just some close time with you. What ever you are comfortable with, in an intimate, romantic, possibly sexy kind of way. A few days later she asked, “no really, what do you want”?
It didn’t happen.
But I did take her, to the mountains, and an air BNB, for her birthday.
Of course, she was still entitled, to complain about it, afterwards.
Same with other holidays.

Good old, childhood trauma. My wife is convinced that intimacy, doesn’t need to go beyond the mind. Needing cuddles and sex, are about my unresolved issues, she says. To some extent, she is right.
We did try having another partner. When my energy was directed to the other person. My wife relaxed, and was nicer to be with.
But in the end, my feelings, the other person’s feelings, and attention were stretched.
So we didn’t continue.
Relationships are more complicated, than simple platitudes. Of do this, don’t do this, bad, good.
Life is a journey, to navigate, the best you can.
It’s not supposed to be easy.

A timely topic.
Just the other day, driving past the “sky train” station, in Vancouver. My Chinese born wife said, “when I came here, transit payment, was on the honour system”
“Now it isn’t, did we do that”?
She wasn’t born, under Mao. But her parents were. So you get another generation, that is angry, and messed up. Many chinese families, are still very fractured.

Shocking numbers. They have been so plentiful in the scrap yard. I assume, a ready supply of parts.
My 850's are, auto blue/green 97 GLT estate, Turbo head, fitted out as a T5. Two, manual silver 97 AWD estate's, each with 98 T5 engines.
I just gave one of the AWD's to an American friend, in Bellingham Wa. He may now have, the first one, in the USA.
Others, Red auto 94 940 turbo sedan. 98 XC. Just sold, 86 240 sedan.
Vancouver, Canada.

@martinshao3543 The Chinese know, what they are told. Some travel abroad. Ive been to Beijing, visiting family. On state tv, were two “westerners” debating the South China Sea. They both argued the same points, to each other. That somehow, it was ok for china, to take the land, and sea. (From the other countries, in the region). That the USA, was acting in bad faith, ( protecting the rights of the other countries).
What most Chinese know, is through a propaganda filter.

J, welcome.
Long time immigrants, and hopefully recent ones, are here to be Canadian. Good. The large group that came, while China was more open, it was growing, with hope for better. The last 30, 20, 10 years ago. Many of these people, have created homogeneous community here. They can get by, in Mandarin, and follow, the ministry of truth.
Should we be worried, that some, or many, are undermining our freedom to openly criticize, any state, specifically one.
My 14 years from China wife, still believes the Chinese media crap.
That it’s ok, for them to occupy another place, and people. While if the USA did the same, we would all yell bloody murder.
My burning question is. How bad is it, in that community. How do we include them, so they are not our downfall?

If we can just learn to be open and vulnerable to our partners. Actually understanding ourselves well enough, to know our desires, and triggers.
We don’t understand our childhood trauma. Created by our parents, and their parents.
When we are young, 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, ect, these feelings are so urgent, desperate, confusing.
Yes be married to someone. Fight for them, and yourself, we are all capable of real love. It may take a lifetime, or two, or three, it’s the journey.

@thatexcalifornian6124 If hooking up with a few strangers. Was part of your journey of self discovery. There would be nothing wrong with that, except a health risk.
My ex wife, had various childhood traumas. Mostly starting with, bowel surgeries as an infant.
She didn’t trust being touched, in a sexually suggestive way.
We had everything, we had a great friendship. But my sexual frustration, never went away. We divorced after 25 years together, and still have affection for each other.
She now lives alone, determined to never be in a relationship.
I’d be happy, (and a bit jealous), for her to learn to accept herself. Free enough to enjoy being with someone, who really cares for her, in all ways.
I’m glad you found a way to be free, of your restraints.

I so hope she gets over it. I don’t think, a person ever really does. This kind of betrayal, gets to the core of a person. My ex wife, was traumatized as an infant. By bowel surgery’s, and being left in hospital.
28 years together. Intimacy meant, being in the same space. Anything possibly sexual, was threatening. This kind of trauma, can ruin more than one life.
I so hope this young lady, can find, and appreciate. Caring, and trustworthy, people in her life.
It looks like she will.

@skydragon23101979 The world, in different ways. You have heard of debt diplomacy? Bribe, or entrap officials, to accept ,and sell to their people. Infrastructure projects, or signing over resources, to the Chinese state. China brings it's own people over to build the projects, it's own camps, and merchants. This way, the money returns to China, rather than enriching the locals. The locals are left with crippling debt, and propaganda, saying China did something for them.
This would include, a lot of the global south. While you are down there, ask them, who took all the fish?

@mrvan3491 There is no comparison. One, the whole world is free to criticize the USA, for it's failings. While, the CP has a tight control over it's internal, and external narrative. The other is, Guantanimo is not a good place. But in scale it is a rain drop. Compared to invading Tibet, and Xinjiang. Then committing cultural, and physical genocide, of their peoples. Wiping out an entire people, or reducing them to a tourist attraction, because they are inconvenient. Can not be justified in any way.

@jogreen12 Hi Jo, Thailand, Bali, Vietnam, if you stay away from the "most popular" areas. In the more rural areas, the people are great. Taiwan is not over run with tourists. So what you experience, represents the place. The markets, temples, walking the streets, in and around Taipei is great. The islands in the Philippines, the villagers are poor, but very friendly. You can go on forever there, exploring beaches.

@Liboch I get what you are saying. The threat is constant, and persistent. But the Taiwanese, seem to have learned to live with it. The CCP, does use bluster as a leading talking point.
Having been recently to Taiwan, before HK, and China. With family in China. Taiwan culture, is amazing in contrast. The people are polite, and grounded. It is a high trust, and considerate society. Of course it isn't ideal, no place is. The Chinese and others there, did not experience the soul crushing Mao era, onward.
My wife is visiting family in Beijing right now. She is meeting up with old school, college, and work friends. She is very disappointed, in what they re all interested in. Money, seems to be the only thing they care about. It's like they have lost their soul.
Another thing about Taiwan, they keep a low profile. If you speak out, china has a hammer, cuts you off. I could not find any pro Taiwan T-shirts, no Taiwan for ever, Taiwan freedom, kind of things. Only saw the flag, on a few places. But , don't mistake that, for a lack of pride, and determination.

Ken Wells Hi Ken. There are very few places, where ancient rock is still in existence. Most of the tectonic plates are moving a couple of centimetres a year, towards subduction. Where the rock becomes molten, again. To come up as new rock, where there are volcanoes. Other young rock, is from erosion, layering, pressure, and time. For example, look at shale, and sandstone. Then there is old broken rock, mixed with newer rock, time, and pressure, gives marble etc. Sorry, I’ve forgotten the basic categories of rock. But if you read a bit on it. The geological world, becomes a fascinating place.
To us all rocks seem old. Until you understand the basic process of it.

It’s a shame, the Americans had so little post war coverage.
Canada built, 800,000 military transport vehicles.
50,000 tanks.
40,000 field, naval, anti aircraft guns.
1.7 million small arms.
16,000 aircraft.
348 merchant ships.
Most of it went to allies, including the USA.
The Canadian troops, were the most mechanized, in the war.

Yes, culturally they are different. From the Americans, and the Chinese. The Taiwanese, are very grounded, spiritual and polite.
Having been to China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. It seems part of their way of being, is turtle. In regards to dealing with a large bully. Don’t flag wave, and hopefully you get ignored. Out last them. When there I couldn’t find any pro Taiwan souvenirs, and only saw the flag a couple of times.
Support them in whatever manner they need. It would be tragic, to have this traditional yet modern culture revolutioned.

@zzbeasley Iv'e been to China, not going back, anytime soon. I've been to HK, hope I can go back, some day. Just went to Taiwan, It's a gem, so clean, and the people are amazing. It's a high trust society, really cool. The CCP can never get off it's ego trip. But for all our sakes, I'm praying it can. Of course the west isn't perfect, but at least we can talk about it. Try to do better.

Hi, I lost my dad too soon, sadly to suicide. Yes I often think of the projects, we could have done together. But mostly, that he didn't get to be a grandpa.
Do you have children? My adopted kids, are the best thing ever.
I bought an old car, for my daughter. Fixed it up for her. Same with my son.
Best thing, she has got me out hiking. This year, with her friends, we did an 11 day trip together. Now she want's to go, hot tent winter camping.
I'm so proud, to be their dad.

My concern, is that we transact, and hold our wealth, in an electronic form. If China, or a solar flare, wipe all the computers….
Having most of my net worth, in the bank, or brokerage. Gives me the willies. One day soon, I won’t be able to work.
Holding more than a little gold, and cash. They call you a criminal.
(Don’t start on crypto, it’s an electronic ledger)

@heinrichhimmler3781 Ok, if you invest there. You are supporting a regime, that is out to control the world. You don’t own, those shares. Have no legal recourse. The accounting is fictional.
Sounds like, a great return on, your investment.
All these collapsing property companies, don’t need to pay their foreign bonds!!
If foreigners are gullible enough, to invest, or build a factory, in China.
Good luck, being a nobody.

Hi guy's. Amongst all the multitude of underhanded things the CCP gets up to. Iv'e noticed in Canada. That some of my Chinese acquaintances, go to Tibetan churches. The Tibetan diaspora, is spread pretty thin, and has few resources. I'm guessing, these churches, are not run by the Tibetan people. But are a-part of the overall influence operations, of China. If anyone has a question about Tibet, and it's people. The obvious place to go to ask, would be the church.
Hand in hand with the offshore police. The truth, can stay under a boot.
Does anyone, know more about his?

@Mexicanita1904 A real man, he was.
My unconditional love, was from my grandmother. Mom was busy, with our tormented dad. It is so important, for grounding a young man. No matter how difficult, or challenging life can be. You rise to it, do the best you can, protect family and friends. While returning the core love, to everyone. To love yourself.
I'm in my 60's, twice have married women, 25 yrs, and current. That love me, but are afraid to open themselves. They both are scared to reveal, their feminine passionate desire.
I married, to rescue my mom. Driven by, a foolish naive optimism. That I can heal, someone else's broken trust/heart.
All the best, love you.

A reminder, when you were thinking of other countries that have the D penalty.
Please, don’t ever forget, how horrible China is. Their legal system is purely political. Against anyone, speaking out against the party, is a minority, follows religion, and other controlling reasons. Remember the white paper movement. Those people just quietly disappear.
They use live organ donors, for profit.
Remember these things, when thinking to buy their products.
Massive pollution, human rights, military build up.

@molls9006 It is your life, to live. Of course be thoughtful, and respect other peoples views. Your mom, may be speaking from her mistakes, regrets. We all make mistakes. As long as we can learn, from theirs, and our own. We are doing well. Please don't live your life, according to what people with an agenda tell you. Take advice from those, who genuinely care for your well being. Who actually listen to you, not their social, religious beliefs first.
Marriage/long term relationship is not easy. As long as you both understand, that you both have to put into the marriage, and yourselves. Be the best you can be. To get long term respect from each other. It's how, you get through the rough times.
I wish you well.

@anndelacruz1986 Butterflies, is one thing. But if you are worried about a controlling partner. Who doesn't respect your views now. When you would expect them to be on good behaviour. You know it will be impossible to leave, once you have a beautiful baby.
I'm particularly sensitive to this kind of dynamic. My father was a handsome, charming, smart, well loved man, in his community. But at home, he was crazy jealous, and controlling of my mom. In an affluent western country, that was her home. She still found it impossible to leave.
What ever you decide. Don't ever, let yourself become someones possession. Mutual respect, or nothing.
You sound like a genuine person. Keep your inner light shining.

Some of the Chinese people, lifted themselves out of poverty, by being allowed to work. After Mao, tried to starve everyone, they opened up. Most are still poor. Success!! The real China, is Taiwan. They didn't destroy the old artifacts, culture, have free speech, democracy, personal safety. (You don't see metal cages, around windows). Taiwan's per capita GDP, is higher than in any mainland city, or district.
So of course, Taiwan is a threat, and must be destroyed.
Is China being a threat to the rest of the world, a good thing??

Power, and a victim mentality, is terribly dangerous. Sheer madness, something bad happened in the past, so anything is now justified? We all have past injustices, grow up, be a positive member of the world. Context, who did the worst, to the Chinese people, Mao. Cleaning house, is not allowed, so enemies are needed. Do the Chinese people deserve, a paranoid, surveillance state?

Ouch, betrayal is a loaded word. How do you define betrayal? What was it? Was it intentionally against you. Or a partner, acting out their own trauma and fears.
Are you able to talk to them, in a not judgmental non accusing way. So they feel safe enough to open up?
Before doing anything drastic, see if you can have a heart to heart talk.
As adults, we still act out our childhood trauma.
I’m 64, and married, to the most beautiful woman. She thinks she is fat and unattractive. She says that her love for me, is deeper. Than the need for physical contact.
The thing that I desire the most, is to be touched in a loving accepting intimate way. More than being able to share passion and desire.
If I were able to experience this, with another person. Does not take away, my desire to be with my loved one.
We mess up, for fear of opening ourselves, and accepting each other’s vulnerability.

Their written mission statement, probably sounds really good. All about helping developing countries, that are out of the funding loop etc. A helping hand, without the strings attached. A jet, corner office, big salary, benefits.
Back when the CCP wasn't showing it's cards. Sucking in pension money, (Ray Dalio, Elon, Apple), and intellectual property, from the world.
We were all useful idiots. Even now, we still buy their solar panels, and EV cars.
Or watch, Kids in the hall, the business man.

It’s a lot like when aids was a scare. People were dying of minor things. But it was aids that was making it happen. It makes sense, that the reporting of the W,,,, Flu, was all over the place.
Both of my elderly parents died during the lockdown. They went really fast, going into a care home, and isolated. But their deaths, were reported as, just normal old people breakdown.

Normalcy bias, sunk costs, reputation, ego, industry profits, too big to change, too complicated to start over, humans!!!
Same as buying Chinese products. Despite knowing they are killing us with pollution and coal burning.
Hello, forced labour, genocide, organ harvesting!!!

When Japan invaded China in 37. The USA stopped supplying Japan, with oil, and gave weapons to China. In desperation, Japan attacked the USA. The USA, with allied help, and a tremendous effort, destroyed the Japanese army, and navy.
Has anyone ever heard, a word of thanks, from the communist Chinese??
PS; the USA did not keep, the liberated lands. It did help them, to recover.

When you’ve started an arms race, with all of your neighbours.

@solconcordia4315 I'm so sorry for your loss, of what independence you had. HK, was great to visit.
My comparison with Taiwan, and Canada. Is very superficial. I was referring to size, and noise. The USA, does strong arm us when it comes to trade, and duties. They complain, about our politics. But, we certainly do not have, the constant stress, of PSYOP operations, and the threat of invasion.
You are right, as the inside passage opens up, Russia, the USA, and China. All want, control over it.

A bad news story. Turned into a good news story.
Having been to China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, myself. Taiwan is worth saving for being a shining example. Of being an amazing, socially successful, prosperous, democratic, country. Constantly under threat, by a large all controlling dictatorship. If we don't support Taiwan sufficiently, it's on us, we are next.
The people are amazingly nice, and grounded. They didn't experience Mao, ripping the culture apart. Then setting the stage, for a government that stands on the people's necks.

@TheDaeroner He does sound interesting, I'll head over to my favourite used book store.
I am emotionally reactive. To China's pervasive surveillance, propaganda machine, and military buildout. In context, to their expansionism, how they treat the people in their occupied territories, lack of environmental concern, and that I have kids.
We do need a better way, to make the world safer.
Taiwan is awesome, it's a shining light, surrounded by darkness.

@jameseverett4976 Thanks, I’m not here for sympathy. (I hope) Sometimes it just feels good to let it out.
My stepson, and kids from before, are on their own now. All great kids, I’m happy to be involved.
It’s the money, I’m over 60, and self employed. So being able to work less. To have personal friend and family time, on weekends or more, is pretty sweet.
I hope you are healthy, get some peace, and satisfaction in your life.

@bluehotdog2610 Of course, excluding based on ethnicity, is wrong. I'm just saying, the CCP has put a lot of effort, into placing their people, in influential places, in the west. While, we if in China, would never get near to promoting a balanced narrative. Their own people, only hear the govt messaging. So, what is the way to deal with them? We have TicToc, WeChat, other Chinese media. Do they allow, YouTube, ect, no.

@jacksonchen1482 It’s not so easy. Twice I’ve chosen, wounded souls, with family trauma. That they never get over. My first wife, 25 years of marriage. She was my best friend, we did so many things together. On our wedding day, said. sex? We’re not like the others, we don’t have to do that. My anxiety got so bad, she eventually divorced me.
Second one, it’s been 11 years. Same but different.
At 62, without a pension to look forward to. I’m worried about two things. Loss of finances, in separation, and making a similar choice again.

I wouldn’t encourage anyone, to go as far as she has. But I do admire her ability, to feel free, about her sexuality.
I was married to the most beautiful, smart, capable, young woman ever. We had a great connection, and understanding. Except, she had three bowel surgeries, as an infant. Had an anxious mom, and a colostomy for much of that time, after six weeks old.
Guess what? Everything was great for us, as long as we didn’t go beyond holding hands. Kissing and sex, was not safe, for her.
We had a king size bed, so there was no excuse for touching.
After 28 years together, I had extreme anxiety, and her, some kind of guilt.
Everyone has a story.

@alias6989 It takes a lot of courage, to say that to your parents. So yes to your question. Of course he is confused, but feels strongly enough, to communicate.
A lot of patience, a safe environment, and a lot of talk, would be required. I'd be proud as a parent, to know my child feels safe enough, to talk to me about a difficult topic.
He could also say, I hurt someone, I'm in a gang, I'm doing drugs, my gf is pregnant. If your child is scared of you, they won't tell you. The chance to help them through difficult times, may be missed.

Rich Perez You are right. There isn’t room for us. To tie leaves to our asses, and go back to the forest.
Me? My home is rented, my kids are adopted. My car is old, not a big truck. It carries my tools, for maintenance work. My hobbies are paddling, biking, and hiking. I have a veggie garden, with a water feature for critters. The biggest thing is, trying to not, buy new stuff, use less energy. Recycling, is after, its out there. For fun, pointing out the hypocrisy of, for example. Coal powered Tesla’s, in China.
It feels better, pretending that we can slow this down, buy some time.
I’ve been to China, I’m married to one. So I know, that Russia is not the greatest threat, the Chinese leaders are. They will sacrifice anything, to get something, and are paranoid bitches. It’s only a red button.
Think of the jealous husband. That can kill himself, and his family.
On that note, it’s time to go do something, with my kids.
When we are gone, the earth will adapt, and recover.

@texajp1946 When you say, that China freed the Tibetans, from their culture and religion. We know, that you are speaking, from the propaganda play book. Yes China is a leader in various technologies, after stealing it, and adapting it. Burning all the worlds coal, and building more plants, is organic, but not green. Fishing out the worlds oceans, is also suicidal. Speaking of suicide, being healthy, not Han, or religious. Can get you volunteered, for organ donor, or work camp.

@benginaldclocker2891 By definition, you are correct by saying contested. My point is. China has contested border problems with 17 countries. They keep redrawing their national map, each time, to include more of their neighbours territory. As long as the narrative is contested and reunification. Or investing in other countries. It doesn't sound like aggression, colonialism, debt trapping, or elite capture. Look up Chinese fishing fleet, and marine militia.
Contested is the correct term. But it is being used, for propaganda. They say territory, we say contested, while they build military outposts on the South China Sea atolls.

The majority are/were, good people. In, 30's Germany-Japan, Soviet Russia, Pinochet's Chile, Philippines, Pol Pot's Cambodia, China, USA, etc.
How does that saying go? They came for, that guy. They came for them. Then they came for me.
The powerful, make their own rules. As much as we let them. Left or Right.

Took over?? We love our countries too. Nobody want's to be bullied, invaded, and assimilated. Ask a Tibetan, a Hawaiian. Or, the native people of North and South America.
PS; (USA, is a country, america, is a geographical region, like Asia, and Europe)
You also ask, if we would like to join you? But for the politics. Most people in the USofA, like anywhere else, are fantastic people. The average Russian, or Chinese, are great too.
Since you did ask. You could work on your political division. Ideas, of exceptionalism. And insistence, to treat guns like toys.
(The Swiss, all have guns, but they are not, for shooting each other)
I'm not going to argue about, my response to you.

@MeiinUK hi May, They use these locations, to aid in coercing expats, to do their dirty work. They show a relative in China, sitting in the local police station. With the implied threat, do what we want, or?
Always remember, it’s not the Chinese people, who are the problem. It’s the gangsters, running their country, that have no morals.
There are some really good YouTube channels. That understand, for more than I ever will.
Laowhy86, ADVchina, Serpentza, check out their old stuff. They have a lot of experience, and really care about China. Lei’s real talk, she is like another concerned adult. China Uncensored, if you want to laugh, while you cry.

@rsokol71 My question, is more of a pondering. Chinese people are strong defenders, of the strong family notion. That they somehow, are more family oriented, than other cultures. What I’ve seen is the opposite. Communism has broken, the social bond. It’s all about getting advantage, and saving face. So no matter how bad, things are at home. Losing face is worse. It seems to explain, why the government, also acts like a two year old.
Yes, I shouldn’t say private thing’s, in an obscure forum. Where the words, will drift into the soup of noise. It’s a bit of my frustration. Of being with someone, who has a defensive wall up. So no one can ever hurt her. But in reality, it just makes for anger, and no “constructive” outlet. My adult kids, don’t visit, because they are scared of her.
Yes, her mom did beat her with a stick. For being interested in a boy.
Her earliest years, she was raised by a relative. She did the same to her son, and feels guilty about it.
Saying this here, feels like the modern version of. Looking at the night sky, and asking for answers.

Svein Gerald Hansen
I totally got your message the first time. I’m in Canada. Where, I’m so grateful to be able to take my elderly parents to the hospital as needed. They are checked in, and out, like it was a hotel, (actually easier, and faster). With no direct cost to me. As a self employed, it’s nice to not be bankrupted, by your parents. Imagine the stress, taking your old dad to the hospital.
But our system is under the threat of, a strong business lobby. That wants us to be like the US. They can smell the huge profits. And currently, we have to pay our Dr’s crazy amounts, to discourage them from going south.
1
-
1

What about, the many layers of middlemen. The back and forth with the insurance companies.
I’m in Canada. My elderly parents, are on a revolving door basis, with their Dr’s, and the hospital. It is so simple, to check them in, and out, like a hotel. When in good enough shape to go home again, they go. Wether a few hours, or a week. Yes it’s us the taxpayer. But only having a single payer, for everything that is needed. Has to be cheaper, and Is far less stressful.
The joke here. Is there is a strong business lobby, trying to privatize our system.
Follow the money. Don’t be conned, by big business.

Title should be, more about why most living things have side preference, mostly right.
The pole beans in my garden, all twist right. Snails twist right, except for Jeremy, and his gf. One in a million. Lodgepole pine, and Douglas fir, start life with a left spiral, pass through zero at mid life, then twist hard right, as they get real old. (I think the twist, resists splitting, when tall and heavy). Red Alder, has the reverse pattern, to the softwoods. ( but, they don’t get that big)? And yes, my cat leads with his right.

If this is a democratic process. How do you compensate, for the millions of 50 cent army, from China. Saying what they believe to be true. But just the CCP version of events/history. Like, that the sea, was, and should be, Chinese territory?
Historical Chinese maps, show their territory, as far south, as Hainan island. The one map, that does show extra territory, was a speculative one, of imagined past glory.

@angelaa7388 So true, we need to love ourselves first. Before we can truly love, and open up to others. I'm finding that now.
On a side note. My grandmother left her nasty husband, at 50-51 years of age, with nothing. To go out on her own. Working as a cook in logging camps. She married the love of her life. My mom did the same, at the same age. Dad was overcome by his controlling jealousy, and killed himself. He intended to take her with him, but she escaped. To remarry, someone who adored her. From a position of emotional strength.
I was also 51, when cast adrift. Her family was my family, my home, and my work. Yes I remarried, a similar kind of person. Who is scared to let me in. (and safe for me, to play my rescue others role). After 12 years of being frustrated with each other. We are opening up our hearts and minds, and finding something much deeper.
It's taken me 64 years, to find enough acceptance, to feel free.
The difficult times, are teaching you.

I’m completely with you. It’s about expectations. I grew up in Vancouver, the always stupidly expensive city.
Same as my parents, the first decade of marriage, and home ownership, meant. Thrift shop, yard sale appliances furnishings clothing, roommates, an old car, a veggie garden, no restaurants, nothing on credit, but the house. You take turns, going to school. That’s how it always was.
We survived an 18% mortgage rate.
Surprise, it’ll come again.
Unwinding 70 yrs of deficits.

Canada was smart, the government instituted Canadian content rules, for radio and television. It has been a large boost to local talent. Creating a lot of great bands, fantastic television, and movie content.
Many of us are not happy with the TPP, because under it, can-con is abolished. As well as our, well managed dairy quotas. So we will be flooded with, subsidized, cheaper, hormone milk, and cheese. Putting our own farmers in trouble, with a loss of food security.

Why didn’t we think of that!!
All we have to do, is all stop what we are doing. Turn everything off, and the population goes back to a few million, problem solved.
It’s not the economic or political model at fault. Some are worse than others, like in China. Where you burn and pollute, to reach political production targets.
The problem is technology, and innovation.
We invent fire, weapons, language, we are no longer equal on the savanna.
Every time technology advances, in health, sanitation, agriculture, etc. Our population increases, thus consuming more, needing more space, more advance.

@questioneverything4491 Hi, That sounds like my idealistic view. I was married for 28 years. To an intelligent, capable, beautiful young woman. Who, as an infant, had numerous bowel surgeries. She went to sleep, with a blankie. I thought that with love and gentleness, she would feel safe. It never happened. In the end, she felt guilty, i was frustrated. And yes, she went for years, to three different therapists. I wasn't invited. Because that would have challenged her comfort level.

@GhostofTrufflePast It sounds like you need some, real life, outside the country experience. I had no idea, that Canadian health care, only covers preventative procedures. I’m 62 years old, have raised a family, and assisted my elderly parents, in their decline and passing. Through all the Dr visits, emergency care, surgeries, home care, and eventually care home. I have been ever grateful, to not have to open my wallet, or argue about a bill. I’m self employed, and never worried about, medically induced bankruptcy.
My best friend, has lived 14 years with, a type of Leukaemia, had a stroke two years ago. He was flown by helicopter, from his town,to the best hospital, in the city. He has had a lot of therapy. He is doing well, is now driving, and talking again.
Rob is also self employed. He still has his two houses, his boat, and vintage corvette.
When you go to any medical care. You give your ID, and in you go, easy easy easy. No arguing, with a gate keeper, insurance company.
Yes our system is backed up, in some areas. There is a staff shortage, same as in many professions, right now.
We have American friends, who tell of, having to sell property, for moms hip surgery, etc.
Wait lists? My daughter is on a wait list, for breast reduction surgery. The Dr said, she has four months to lose forty pounds first. Sounds like a fair deal to me.
When a service is essential. Adding layers, of for profit, isn’t in the publics best interest.
My 2cents worth.

@steve_m2473 Hey Steve, thanks, the options are only in small amounts. The bulk is in VIX, pm’s, TLT, a little UUP, bitcoin.
All good, it’s a waiting game, right now.
I’m more worried, when the market blows, so will real estate, and the economy. The CCP will take full advantage. And we might be, in re-education camps, before we know it.

Atiq, I hear you. A weak, empty partner, can tell you all you want to hear. Be the most wonderful. While pushing you away, from the others in your life. So they can have you, all to themselves. They think, you will complete them. (Believe me, the ego, loves to ride that horse).
Eventually they realize, they are still the same, and you are not making them whole. Then you see the anger, and frustration, come at you.
They are not bad. But searching externally, for validation.
If it isn’t found internally, or through others, organized religion can be a big enough distraction.
I’m not, of any great wisdom. Just old enough to know. You need to find your own peace first. Be calm, when approaching relationships. Listen to your gut, don’t hurry it. Be friends, first.
All the best to you.
Bill.

@Readmycomment-gm6fe Everyone says move on. Take the easy way, end up with ?
We did try it. It was a real bonding moment. Not crazy bunny sex, as expected. But for her to feel safe, and connected. With herself, and with me.
We are cuddling now, when we go to bed. Instead of, looking at our phones.
It is developing into something far more meaningful.
She is getting in tune with the idea, of deeper connection.
Next week, we are going to a Tantra party.
At 64, with a life together. Life, and love, is full of surprises.

@skydragon23101979 Nothing wrong with trade development, that's good. Without, western investment, tech transfers, western subsidized shipping rates, forced labour, and massive coal burning, that will kill us all. Two new plants every week, last year. With 270 planned, for the next two years.
Read my post above. The only enemy of Taiwan is China. Go there it is a great place, with really polite nice people.

@stlouisix3 What we can do is counter their propaganda, and algorithms. The CCP seems to respond to action, or force, they ignore diplomatic talk and promises. If we collectively call bullshit, on their aggressions. There is a chance at least, of them backing down.
Even the new chat GTP, is programmed to avoid "controversial" topics in English. But if you ask in Mandarin, or cantonese, it denies the bad things happen, altogether. So, who is writing the programs? That's a good question.

Why save something, that is designed to boost the CCP, and hurt us?
Ask TikTok about Tiananmen massacre, Uighur camps, Tibetan culture genocide, freedom to criticize the CCP, increasing coal burning, military buildup, aggression towards Taiwan-Philippines-all other neighbours, live organ donation, fishing fleet, abortion, freedom of speech-religion-association-bear arms, etc, vs anything USA and west bad.
One is deemed inappropriate content, the other encouraged.

@Leshic2 Wow, we are so under water. You can say anything about a western leader/institution. But nothing, that reveals C,,,, leadership, for what they are doing, to us, and their own.
With mass AI, coming on stream. We have to sort this out, fast.

@StephenGillie Rural areas? My wife just spent a month in Beijing. The air quality is nasty. Two of her highschool friends, died of lung cancer. At her mom's, all the good things in the house, are covered in plastic. Because, after two or three days, they get dirty.
Massive increases in coal burning, is suicide, for all of us. Or maybe the industrial pollution, pumped into the rivers and groundwater, is worse?
Stop buying their junk, it's killing us, and them.

Xi-Trudeau, was not a dressing down. But an example, of Chinese spin, dominating the narrative. The western media is guilty, of carrying the ball. On negative stories, about ourselves.
Serpentza, ADV, or China fact chasers, do a good coverage of this event.
Xi didn’t understand, that western leaders, do speak to their media. They are for the people, the countries, not themselves.

@peterhanssens7260 We, western countries still send foreign aid to China, because it is still "a developing nation". We, also subsidies their shipping, and postal rates, same as for poor African countries. Thus killing any of our own businesses, that ship things.
Last year, We Canada, sent 7.59 million dollars in foreign aid, to China. 18.2 million dollars, in export development loans. 159.2 million Dollars, share purchase, of asian infrastructure Bank of Beijing.
Talk to your current MP, and your future one.
Those numbers are according to, Michael Campbells show MoneyTalks.

@themoe.1 It's so simple, right? The modernized countries, got the ball rolling. We now know better, and are improving, slowly. In the west, our CO2 output is declining. While China is still building more coal plants, domestically, and abroad. But, were not allowed to say that. Or, that they, are fishing out the world's oceans.

@chiznowtch You and I, know that any data out of China. Goes through the ministry of truth first. Making it all just, a reflection, of how paranoid the CCP is.
I’m referring to most people, who don’t pay attention to the details.
My wife, and step son, are from China. They believe that China is helping the world, handled the pandemic wonderfully, etc.
I’m in Vancouver, where there is a huge number of new Chinese. The ones who benefited from the system. They only get Chinese propaganda media.
The old Chinese families here, know better, they are Canadian.
But the new ones, have money and influence. They have bought up most of the rental real estate, and are now buying agricultural land.
I talk to, people as much as I can.

No it can't be my fault!! That a lovely tropical village, and beach. Has turned in to stores, restaurants, hotels, cars, boats, endless tours. Never to have clean bio diverse waters again. As modern humans. Everything we do, turns nature, into garbage. Think about it, work backwards, on every aspect of your life. Look at the clothing you wear. It is from farming, or petroleum based.

Retreads should like a good idea, for using less. The farmers need, what we have in Canada, for dairy farmers. Quota, that matches the demand. The farmer, gets a reliable predictable price. That allows them a good living. In the USA, they over produce, the prices go down. The farmer sells out, to the large corporations. Then they are beholden, to the company.
The consumer gets a cheaper product, at a cost, to the farmer, and to quality, (their health).

@laras678 The topic, was partially about slavery. We know that there are certain levels of slavery in the world. Like with domestic help in Dubai, or prostitution.
Why I mention it, is. Because China invaded Xinjiang, and it is systematically removing, or neutering the Uighur peoples. If they are not in work camps, the women are forced to marry Chinese men.
With a surveillance state, they manage the story. While we like to buy cheap clothing, and manufactured goods. (It's also a cotton growing region).
It's a related topic, and very important. Because it is happening to real people, right now.

When interest rates, start to go up, more than a little. If it, starts to reflect real risk, and fear. The speed, and level will be shocking.
Here in Canada, when Quebec had a separation referendum, in 94, or 96. Our mortgage was up for renewal, two weeks before the vote. We locked in at, %15 and %18, for a five year, and a three year term.
An experience like that, can make you very afraid, of debt.

@JB52520 Fishing?? You're kidding right! Think China's coast line. It is short, and polluted. Yet China has the worlds largest fishing fleet, with armed escorts. There was a world wide conservation treaty signed this spring, China opted out.
Humour me with your justifications for. A billion $ organ transplant industry. Supplied by political dissidents, prisoners, Uighur's, Falun Gong, Tibetan's. The forced assimilation of the occupied territories, Tibet, East Turkestan. The constant harassment, and undermining of Taiwan. Every official, new map issued, includes more foreign territory. No freedom of speech. Where is Peng Shuai, Where is bridge man, Where is Sexy Cyborg tech girl, Where is chained up peasant woman? Why are the top CCP leaders all filthy rich. In an equal society. Building military bases, in Philippine territorial waters. Some info for you, compare the freedom index, and happiness index, China vs Taiwan. Hong Kong, before vs after takeover. Why do they want CCP, to now be CPC? For a cleaner record. No more Mao's, four olds, destroying traditional culture, killing tens of millions. Washing party sins.

So,,, its a good idea, to invest. In the country that has virtually no environmental, or labor laws. Is engaged in persecution of minority groups, in its occupied territories, same with religious groups. Is engaged in unconventional warfare, stealing our tech, and undermining us. While pushing, a huge arms buildup.
Good idea, money over morals, and future safety.

Lei, have you discussed? That there is room in the comments, for the 50 cent army, to throw deflection. On any discussion, of the Chinese ruling “party”. At the same time, there is no room, for critical discussion, within China. While our media, is not perfect. It doesn’t all go through, the ministry of truth.
This is why, voices like yours, are so important.

@angusmckenzie9622 Ooo, the list is long. We are free to criticize, the west, all we want. This in of itself, should be recognized as a strength, not a fault.
Tibet, Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, are all large, small population countries. Next to a large population country.
They have been invaded, and occupied. Their cultures, are being destroyed.
I am also in a large, low population country, next to a large powerful country. We get bullied with tariffs, by the larger country. But so far, we have had the freedom to exist.
I am Canadian.
If Russia, or China, was next door…..

I was just in the lovely country of Taiwan. Out of respect to the locals, I wore a mask. Because they were.
China next door, is having a “flu” epidemic, right now. Because they no longer test for Covid.
.014x1,400,000,000=19,600,000 fatalities, not the 93,150 as reported Feb 9, 2023

GDP, is a poor measure of economic health. It measures, productive, and unproductive activity.
Employment rates, don’t count the not participating, prisoners, etc. It also, shouldn’t include the military, policing, health, teachers, those are expenses.

I have two of these, in silver. I run mine, with the propeller shaft out. To save the AWD system, weight, and fuel. Sometimes putting it back in for winter. (the real trick is, I have a 98XC, for snow, and back roads).
I do have a spare prop shaft, and viscous coupler. it isn't pretty. If you can arrange shipping, and want it? I'll give it to you. Problem, I'm in Vancouver Canada.

@basscannonjake1235 Think about this, China has cornered the steel, and other metals industry. They still have cheap labour, forced labour etc. They intend to take over the world. So, I wouldn't brush off, what they are doing.
They can build volume, at low cost. While the USA builds hopefully quality, slowly, at the highest cost. The corporations running the military, and healthcare, are determined to bankrupt the country.
Remember what happened to the Soviet Union? The arms race, bankrupted them.

Maybe we have been wrong, all this time. Xi, is not poo, incarnate. He is a fairy, with a too too, and a special, wish wand.
Poverty be gone, woosh!!!
Opposition be gone, woosh!!
Falung gong, be gone, cut cut!!
Religion, woosh!!
Ethnic minorities, cut, woosh, clang!!
“Ohh what fun”
Said the dancing fairy.
Pollution, inequality, woosh!!
Other countries borders, woosh!!
On and on, it goes.
No end, to the possibilities.
More honey, yum.

@TitusAzzurro Hi Tiziano, Thanks for your kind words. Everyone has their story, (why we shouldn’t be quick, to judge others).
The ending was difficult for gramps. Mom went quickly, but dad carried on for two years. We had window visits. With his dementia, he would remember mom and cry. He couldn’t understand, where she had gone.
But taken, in another light. They were both depression era, farm kids. Survived the big war. Loved to play music. Then they both had, unhappy marriages. We’re each widow, and widower.
Their second marriage together, was almost 50 years of utmost affection and devotion. Overall, they were blessed, and loved by many.
Luckier lives, than most people.

Easy, just stop being dicks.
Give back the occupied territories, allow religion, free speech, reduce pollution, embrace minorities, leave the fish in the ocean, for all the world, close the work camps, etc.
peace, and prosperity.

@peterseth3296 Freedom of speech, is the only tool available, to the oppressed. It is essential, in a healthy society.
Are you aware, that if you visit Xinjiang, it is within a controlled bubble. You only see, what they want you to see.
If there was any “terrorism”, it would have been to defend their home, culture, and family. That is what you are supposed to do, when your land is occupied.
1
-
@peterseth3296 Technically yes. But there is a big difference. China, has state controls, on all media, and messaging. They use this machine, to hide behind, and to control what they're people, and outsiders do, and think. It is an instrument for unconventional war, to suppress ethnic minorities, religious groups, and create dissent elsewhere.
The other side of the coin, is face down. It needs to see the light of day. A few people, getting facts out, verified, and disseminated, is crucial.

That’s the point. They are sowing division, in western society. While, diverting any attention, from their transgressions. Like, being the worlds polluter, taking all the fish, organ transplants, genociding the Tibetan’s and Uighur’s, building up their military, while being aggressive, no free speech, no freedom of religion, etc, etc.

@EuropeanWren Not even close. Putin shows his hand, by direct assault, and also subterfuge. He isn't as strong as we thought.
Meanwhile the CCP is engaged in unrestricted warfare. Influencing international councils, like the human rights council? Financing, and supplying fentanyl precursors, to Mexican gangs. Pushing all their borders, building villages across the lines. Aggressively building their military. But mostly, they are in the algorithms, and minds of all the large corporations. Who don't want to be cut off from potential market share. You can't criticize china, but anything that creates division in western society is ok.
With their debt trapping smaller countries, it's colonialism with a smile and a handshake.
If we don't challenge them. Many of us will end up like the Tibetan's, and Uighur's. Or even their own people, who are under absolute control.
1
-
1
-
1
-
Does this sound plausible.
Putin had Xi’s blessing, to go after Ukraine.
Iran (who is helping Hamas), is currently backed by China.
This can go two directions. Russia exhausts itself, and its arable land, oil, nukes, water, is easy pickings. Easy like, Tibet and Xinjiang were.
With enough distractions, the USA won’t defend free Taiwan.
Seizing more territory, Xi stays on as emperor. Just as his people, were about to revolt.
Luck us, we get education camp, and organ donor cards.

@veronicacobb8691 Hi Veronica, My opinion. Here’s 4cents worth. It started with television, and movies at home. Our stimulation and entertainment, is at the turn of a knob, touch of a screen. We are siloed, watching our iPads, our phones. Is it two generations ago now? That we got together to make music, play charades, go dancing. (That sounds a lot healthier) even though we did drink and drive, etc.
Is the back door always open, at your neighbours, and friends houses?
Ten years ago, we were traveling in the Philippines, going to smaller islands. I would get up really early, and walk through a small fishing village. The kids were happy and running around. They’d show me their ball, or their rooster.
They were poor, but didn’t know it. They had a village, watching out for them. They didn’t have phones.
My heart swells, just remembering those happy faces.
Create community however you can. Join a hiking, flower arranging, etc, club.

Even just generationally, or culturally. The Chinese come here, and say so much nothing. All that nature is amazing, but useful.
I’m busy saying, no no no, too many people.
The song birds are now crows. Trees are dying, and burning, from longer summers, cooler winters. The salmon, are less, and farther away.
What is normal now, is so different for each generation.
In my lifetime, we have eaten up so much good land.
But the general consensus is, Canada needs more people.

Junk food, is way more expensive. My wife is away for a month. I’m eating a variety of veggies, eggs, a little fruit, meat, and plain yogurt, butter, black coffee, green India tea.
Twice a day, no snacks.
Way way way cheaper, and I feel great.
Fast, and processed food, garbage in, garbage out.

2 top reasons. The wife and kids. The kids, are learners, and my wife jams it into first at 40kph, (25mph). She also, leaves it in neutral down hill. Then finds a gear, to jam it into. I have two rare, 97 Volvo 850awd wagons, manual 2.3, same colour. PS; very nice to see. That the comments, didn't instantly turn into partisan intolerance, for democracy.

Ask a Tibetan, Mongolian, or Uighur, how it's going. How many countries is China having a border dispute with. Damming, and cutting off the rivers to south east Asia. Claiming the south chine sea. Rewriting maps. Debt diplomacy, to get control of countries,, that either have strategic port locations, or resources. Infultrating western media, to control the narrative.
Nothing to see here, all is well. Until it is too late.

Same as, the anti corruption drive’s.
If you’re on the team, anything goes. Then someone decides, your not.
It’s a fantastic system, to guarantee compliance. As long as the party members, have a me first attitude.
Our democracies, are certainly flawed. If it promotes division, over teamwork. Voting in, the ever spending more party.
But, most people go into office, trying to help their society. And we can kick them out, every so often.
We really need to push back, against all the anti western propaganda.
Or we collectively fail.
Disney, etc. Fawning, CCP favour.

All the surrounding countries that are being encroached upon.
Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, Vietnam, Indonesia, Brunei, Philippines, Taiwan, Japan, Russia, and the rest of the world.
Could go help, build more wall.
As a good will project, to mankind.
As long as, the occupied territories get freedom.

@leoniegureghian4015 Hi Leonie, thanks I'm trying to be. While we can still communicate, on any forum. It is important, to speak against, the huge propaganda machine, surveillance, and profiling, etc. Before it is too late, it may already be.
Two things, it's just wrong, to not push back. But more so, our next generation will have a tough enough time, with the demographic bubble, and environmental degradation. They certainly don't deserve to be, lower class citizens in their own countries, or in work camps.

This model is missing, the most important, and complex part. How do we go back to a clean environment, with biodiversity. While consuming so much?
They are going in opposite directions. One is life, the other is, a more comfortable life for now.
One example, wood burning in a local area. Is inefficient, energy in energy out, (economically) wise. But ecologically, can be sustained for a long time, it’s almost pollution and carbon neutral. Depending on the inputs.
When X is brought out of a mine or well, and made into a product. It is a negative input, to nature. (Our long term health, and well being).
Take a good look at the massive scale of pollution, coming out of China right now.

Less than a hundred years ago. My mom, was on a farm, sod house, hand dug well, plowing with horses, no electricity.
Very healthy and happy.
Actually, far more advanced, than today. Not using, plastics, pesticides, and all the “great” things, we do to nature now.

@hankhill6707 My mom, was a leader, in helping the Hawaiian people find their roots. To teach their culture, music, and language, in their own schools. Native bands, are self governing, and regaining their cultures.
In Tibet, kids are taken away from their families, to only learn Mandarin ways. With their temples torn down. The rivers dammed. Their spiritual leader, in exile.
It's not comparable.

Rather than a set figure. It’s the always moving goalposts. My dad always said, “I’ll be happy when”.
As the goal was attained, a new one would appear. He eventually killed himself.
My ex wife, of 25 years. Used the same phrase, after we travelled around the country. For her to get, multiple degrees.
When I asserted, that another degree, was not the answer to satisfaction. My assistance, was no longer needed. As I wasn’t being helpful.
I sold my soul, for the possibility, of her love. A proxy, for my father.
It’s never too late. To appreciate yourself, and have true friends.

See how well, that works. He can't pack up, and move his factories. His empire, or vision, is so big. That little discretions, are justified. Problem is, they get bigger. To the point of, enabling forced labour, cultural genocide, etc. Giving tech to those, who want to destroy us.

StrategicFooyoo Hi, my point was, we know better now. Western economies modernized, when we knew less about, destroying rivers, the air, and other cultures. China is doing this in modern times. There is no excuse for destroying the planet, for a few bucks. 500 more coal burning plants are up for development, in China. Is it truly a modern country, if they can do organ harvesting, on groups they don’t like? Fish everyone else’s seas, because you polluted yours?
And you go to jail, if you discuss these things?
A legal system with no due process.

We all know, that the CCP controls the narrative. What about, some of the mythology? Like how, family means more than in other cultures. Famine, Mao’s reign, new wealth, a narcissistic government, all create, a fair amount of dysfunction in families. I keep hearing how Chinese families are so close and supportive.
What I hear, contradicts this notion.
My wife, and stepson, are from Beijing. Her stories, and her, from the mainland, Chinese acquaintances. Have horrendous tales, of jealousy, abuse, and neglect.
I don’t know if it’s worse, than from other places. But it sure isn’t better.
Thank you Winston, for your reporting, of your experience.
It will take many voices, to silence, the ministry of truth.

Lin, Lets say it's your opinion, vs my opinion, and of no value. First remember, my comments are not against the Chinese people, but about the government. For a valid answer to this discussion. How about you and I. Go to the source, and ask an ethnic Tibetan, Uighur, Mongolian, or even a citizen of Hong Kong. How they feel, about the CCP. Or even, people from the countries, that China is having border disputes with right now. What they have to say. Will it be similar, to what is reported in the Chinese media? If you haven't done this, please don't respond.

@seekthetruth1478 Hello Seek, problem here, is we are talking to each other. The CCP threat is far to real, to be ignored by the rest of society. But since they have been planting people in think tanks, media, schools, and government. What really is happening, is silenced. People look at us, as if we are crazy. When we say, this is an urgent problem.
Keep it up man, not many are.
When a government hides behind censorship, it is illegitimate.
The CCP has offered to purchase a gold mine in the Canadian high arctic. If it goes through. They will be getting a strategic asset. And ship access, to the north.
Lobby your politician.

Ask a Chinese person, including my wife. If they are grateful for the allied liberation of China, from Japan. You will get a blank stare, then a lot more.
A side note.
A lot of people criticize US imperialism. After allied liberation of many places. The west, particularly the US, did not keep those places. Would China, or Russia, have been so charitable.
The US, the commonwealth countries, and other allies, let Japan, and Germany, go on to prosper, and be their own countries.
If China, with the CCP, becomes a world dominating power. We will long for, more civilized times.

For more daring, they could have sent a mosquito. Fast as hell, but wooden.
Check out, Into The Silence, the book, The everest expeditions, emerged as a symbol of national redemption and hope. After Mallory's generation, was shattered, from the first world war. The book details the war a lot, for context, of these incredible men.

One thing, I don’t hear, spoken of. Is when the western countries won the WW’s. They let Japan, Germany, and liberated places, be themselves, as countries. We should be grateful for this. One day, it may be China, ruling over some of our fates. Like Tibet, Mongolia, the Uighur’s. Not as generous a precedent.

Guys, look up containment.
A man who takes responsibility for things. But only in a loving way, that would never harm, or putdown his wife and kids.
In most cases, will have a partner, that feels secure.
Myself and my best buddy, are relaxed easy going. Would be happy, wandering the world, with a pack on our backs. Kind of guys.
Both of our wives, are uptight wound up control freaks. That push people away, including us. Because everything is a threat, nothing is safe.
I’ve had to learn to take charge, and to speak up for what I want.
Guess what, my wife is more relaxed, and happy to be with me. Going home is a good thing now.

❤ahh the close loving Asian family❤️, myth.
My wife grew up in China, with successful academic parents. The twist is, they lived through Mao tearing down the culture, the induced famines, etc. (the four olds). Then with the subsequent government controlling, thought, speech, free expression, religion.
The only “safe place” is with family. But anything can happen there.
I’m so glad to hear this young lady is working with children. May she find peace in her heart, joy, good boundaries, and accept safe relationships.

@bethanynelson8489 My comment, was not a reflection on religion. As much as it is about, the CCP trying to emulate a cult, or religious status, amongst their people. They encourage Mao, and party worship. To hold onto power. He tore down, a deep culture, and created a great famine. Yet is revered, by many. They use a religious model, for the communist party. Any other faith, is a threat, to the power and wealth.

We all know, that too much lobbying, loose donation laws, results in massive fraud. Bankrupting the country, through the medical, military, prison, ect systems. That are run by big corporations.
Is it long past the time? To review how other democracies, handle this problem.
A taxpayer revolt, saying fix it!!
We will pay you well, to represent us. But no more side deals, cut the crap, it’s killing us.

@drazi3356 You're right, 2023 was pretty bad. According to wikepedia, there were 5 mass shootings in Canada, out of 27 shot, there were 11 deaths. (Mass shootings, 4 or more are included).
USA, 604 mass shootings, 754 killed, 2,443 injured, total shot 3197.
We are way behind in Canada, we need more guns.

I’m not sure what century you are living in. But native people today. Like to have, heated houses, manufactured clothing, store bought food, cell phones, trucks, water treatment, property development.
There isn’t room for all of us, to go back to the woods.
So, the next best thing, is to do the best we can do, with what we all have.
A modular reactor, could prevent, the damming of a few rivers. The slave labour, for solar panels. Or all the heavy metals in wind turbines. That would be fantastic.

A phrase that has stuck with me, all my life. “What goes down the drain, comes back in your drink”
To take that literally. What chemicals that go down the drain. Are now in the environment. The water goes into the land, the river, and everywhere. On its way, to coming back in your drink. Can you drink the river water, that leaves your town?
Think of your whole life as a bubble. What are the inputs, of the things you bring in. They are now in the world.
If you buy a Chinese made EV, electronics, or solar panels. The environmental, and human inputs are horrendous. As well as all the other manufactured products.
Use what you have already, buy local, simplify. You will be happier.

@Underratedcommentator Of course we work on ourselves, for a lifetime. My first marriage was for 25 years. We still love each other, care about each other. My ex has never gotten over her childhood trauma. I tried to love her the best I could, but failed her. After divorcing me, she is now alone, an alcoholic, and a gambler. It's hard to watch. She has had therapists, all her adult life.
My second marriage, is also to someone, who is scared to open up. In our twelfth year, we got fed up with both our walls.
Everything is on the table, we are feeling safer with each other. We are both opening up our mental closets. Realizing that our pasts, can have less power over us. If we feel safe and loved.
The self help, in my 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's, did not have the degree of self love, and compassion for others required.
Bouncing it off, a genuine loving partner, is priceless.
Back to the original point. We were both hurt, by our exes. How we participated in those situations is valid, it carries forward.

True but,,,
I’m self employed, I’m 64, and still working.
A high school friend, got on with the city parks. Had a chill job, no stress, lots of paid holidays, a good wage, and retired decades ago with a pension.
We laughed at him, back then, ha ha ha.
Marriage? You get through the rough times. You grow faith in each other. Then you really have something.

@lindagirl1140 Mind if I jump in? Linda, please don't berate yourself. As Justin said, we all show our love differently. My wife says, that I have no idea how much she loves me. That I can't go deep enough (spiritually) to understand her feelings. Her feelings, are beyond the physical. At a higher level of consciousness. She doesn't need all that touchy kissy stuff.
So yes, the bedroom is a place of conflicted feelings, for me. With lots of meditation, to sleep. Unless I'm on my own.
Touching him more, would have meant nothing to him. As a reflection of my character, I open doors, walk kerb side, little touches, and try to do thoughtful things. Knowing it should be done independently of expectation. But you can't help, wanting some in return. If that's part of how you communicate.
It's not your looks Linda. Do you love a child, or a pet, with your whole heart? Regardless of their looks, or mannerisms. A spouse should be in that category.
It sounds like, he never saw your beauty. Or was scared to open up.
