Can someone please explain to me why having the high ground matters in modern war.

@joshuapaul2022 I expect the casualty figures are extremely over blown on both sides if either side was loosing the amount of troops at the rate at which its claimed that they are the war would have ended already

@Infiritthor same with Russia I always cut the number down to a quarter of what Is reported. I do belive the Ukraine has higher KIA than Russia for two reasons 1 Russian clear artillery superiority & 2 Russian front lines are right aginst Russia when their men are wounded they have short distance to travel to get solid care where as the ukranians need to send men very far to be cared for competently

@richihart1938 what I mean is artillery is the main weapon it causes something like 75% of all casualties in this war so when dealing with weapons that fire miles away does high ground have any real impact?
