@Yoo Wat Yeah, "this" year BUT many upon many, including me, never once were taught this. 27 y/o and I've learned more on YouTube than the 13 years of public school I had to attend. Luckily you are being taught this but not everyone is fortunate

@FarrFromPerfect Here's the problem: If you take a kid to a park and they see a statue of some Asian warrior named Ghengis Khan, are they gonna see that statue as a "Hero" or a "Mongol Genocidal Maniac?" Statues glorify individuals and never tell the full story. Only a visual distraction

Public schools are designed to position kids in preparation to defend their country's political ideology. It never favors the negative. I may sound like a conspiracy theorist but notice how more you learned about US history on YouTube over school curriculum. It's done so on purpose

It will never happen. What they teach and taught us in school is purposely designed to mold kids into believing and defending the US fundamental system. They cater to is by saying MLK, yeah! Underground Railroad, woo-woo!... but never mention the genocides nor unnamed folks mane & killed to make American the way it is. It's strategically placed to "forget." There's a reason why Confederate statues remain (well, until now) and that's to spoon feed their followers to pride proudly & never forget with visual memorials.

@deecee1522 It's not necessarily his fault. I wasn't taught any of this in school. Graduated H.S. in 2012 and it took my own efforts to research on YouTube in order to learn these things

@sadjupiter9462 That's great & all but the harsh part is US school curriculums focus on what would help the US progress rather than dwell on why the US is here in the first place. Unfortunately, this country has been built on lies & genocides since its inception. While learning MLK; Douglass; and Tubman is fulfilling, it's ignoring the unnamed individuals maned or killed to get us to this point

I love to wish for equality and justice but no solution will ever come. As long as we are different races we will always be different.

Problem would be the white supremacists would use "blacks owning & arming with more guns" as a reason to spark a conflict. There wasn't a win, win solution to this one-sided issue

Trust me. I've learned more on YouTube these past 8 years than 13 years of school itself. Educate yourself and others cos public school curriculums are in place to mold kids into defending the American way of life. Such a shame
