I think it's too late to do so nowadays with The Dominican Republic but I still think Cuba is always on the table of discussion once the Communist ideology falls apart. Sometime before this century is over, Cuba is gonna be annexed Maybe... 🤔

@andrejs4984 Puerto Rico wants to be independent but.... they know it would a tough road ahead, so statehood is their best option; Cuba is probably on the discussion of annexation if Communist ideology weeds out before this century is over with. May have 51 & 52 states from the Caribbean

@franzjoseph1837 Which is why I believe US would annex Cuba (eventually statehood) once certain that Communism is weed out. DR is fine by itself. Haiti might be the one needing US statehood

Until Spain rear it's ugly head again. You say that outta pride but DR need US aid often a lot (alongside Haiti) and protection is not a gimmick. However you feel the US can annex The DR tomorrow if they wanted to but can't be a hypocrite with Russia sticking around

@Nicorama42 I mean, there is still slavery in the US right now as we speak. Just not the ol' traditional southern style you remember. President Grant wanting to annex the Dominican Republic was pretty much for strategic power at the time. Spain was still powerful and were still keen on gaining those lands back by brutal force. Mexico with France & Spain teaming up would have been a threat to US and Caribbean islands
