"Military analysts recommending a military spending of 2,5% of GDP to be able to defend themselves from invasion" (paraphrasing). Invasion from who exactly? Martians? Unless you're a major weapons manufacturer, spending that much on your defence if you're under no threat whatsoever is effectively burning cash and resources that could benefit the economy if it were instead spent on infrastructure, health, education or even tax deductions.

@DS9TREK That's a perfect example, actually. If there has been no burglary in your town for 70 years, maybe buying a handgun and installing security systems in every room is not the best use of your paycheck, especially if your kid needs a new pair of glasses.

@kiwi36O Russia spends 70 billion USD on their military. NATO spends 1.3 trillion USD. Almost X 20. Even if you correlate for PPP it's still about X 10 the military spending of Russia. And that's assuming that the Russian economy can recover after the war and fully reconstitute their (evidently pitiful) military strength and manpower. So no, I'm very much well informed about the current affairs. I'm just not a basic bitch that lets media jingo and political demagogues decide what's best for me and mine. Savvy?
