Comments by "Emanon" (@Emanon...) on "Could NATO Kick Out Turkey (to let in Sweden u0026 Finland) - TLDR News" video.
Turkey is strategically and militarily vastly more valuable than Sweden or even Finland. Effectively controlling the Black Sea, projecting power into the Caucasus and Middle East is more important than "winning bigger" in the Baltic and North Sea.

@rojavabashur6455 It really doesn't work if you don't press "read more" before you comment, mate. I've outlined exactly why Turkey is vauable to NATO in the OP. I'm trying to be objective here. Don't entangle me in any anti-Turkish sentiment, "Roj"...

@solidseb1960 What's the total military capabilities in the Aegean? Finland? Estonia? You make it sound as if a NATO member controls a territory, they can magically project the entire alliance capabilities into that region. That's not how it works, mate. No matter your feelings on Turkey, they are amongst the most powerful militaries in the world. Now add to that the manyfold strategic benefits because of their geographical location, at the very least from a defence and denial standpoint, and you have a nation that is undeniably an important asset to NATO. Whether you like Turkey or not is irrelevant. I personally can't stand Erdogan. But I can't stand Orban either. Doesn't change the geopolitical truth we live in.

@dos3722 Yes, it's a good point. Although it really depends on what NATO thinks Russia is up to next... Even with Gotland, the Baltic states cannot be defended from a determined Russian land assault. I don't believe, however, there are any credible threat towards the Baltic states. A threat against them is effectively war vs. all of NATO. No, I believe Russia has a vested interest in Ukraine (obviously), Moldova, Black Sea and Caucasus to the west and Syria, Iran and central Asian republics to the east. Turkey gives NATO power projection capabilities into almost all these regions. The caveat of course being that Russia doesn't seem to behave like a rational actor anymore.

@TomorrowWeLive By all means please elaborate. I'm fascinated by your well researched conclusion.

Tbh, not sure the US will still be able to fulfill the NATO criteria of secular liberal democratic values the way things are going.
