Comments by "Emanon" (@Emanon...) on "What if America Went Full Colonial?" video.
The US has arguably had the most successful colonial empire the world has seen. Military hegemony, opening of markets to American goods and leverage through international actors ie IMF, WTO and the UN. Add to that, the US "empire" was a very light yoke that promoted stability and growth of markets compared to more "exploitative" hegemons.

I see your points about "colonies" and "empire" in the common definition of the words. You are of course correct in the traditional sense. The point of my comment is to highlight that the US (and USSR) were every part as much "colonial empires" as Britain, France or Spain in their glory days. The approach and tools to reach hegemonic political and economic influence over large groups of countries merely support my claim. With technology and economic development, it was no longer economically or strategically viable to take direct control over a country and its resources. Instead a "world order" for regulating, policing and rewarding behaviour that benefited the US was the main tool in US economic colonialism. A system that that also to a very large extent benefited growth and development in many of the US "colonies"...

@xXxSkyViperxXx Comparatively. How would you think your country would've fared under colonial Spain, Netherlands, Third Reich, USSR or, as it looks out to be, under the thumb of China?

@JosephGaming That's an extremly poorly constructed sentence and argument, buddy. It's like saying: "What you said isn't right and has never been right, simply because it has never been right"... You need actual points and/or facts to substantiate your position, sport. Start with looking up the varied definitions of "empire" and we'll take it from there...

@JosephGaming It IS in fact "an extensive group of states or countries ruled over by a single monarch, an oligarchy, or a sovereign state". The Sovereign state/oligarchy is the federal US government and the legislative branch. It rules countless states (aside from the obvious ones): Puerto Rico, Guam, Samoa and the hundreds of Native reservations. The British Empire never had an emperor either, bub.

@JosephGaming They are unincorporated American territories, my dude. And have you ever heard of the Phillipines and Cuba and US influence after the Spanish-American War? The numerous defacto client states around the world and the 170+ military bases across the globe? (vis-a-vis my original point) Who the fuck taught you history and civics? An oligarcy can be elected, a republic and democracy are not mutually exclusive, a monarchy can be a constitutional democracy. An empire merely needs a head of state ie the US president. There are no distinction with regards to constitutionality. Or let me put it this way: Would you rather be ruled by President Putin in Russia or King Charles of the UK. (Russia and China are also empires as they fulfill the criterias by the way) Quickly googling shit and copypasting it does not equal understanding an issue, let alone convincing someone in an argument. That's an opinion, not a fact.
