An important point to remember is that the UK promised Scotland that they would remain in the EU if Scotland voted to remain part of the UK. That in itself is the greatest argument for a new referendum on Scottish independence.

@SirAmnesia Sure, technically you're right. "Technically" doing a bit of the heavy lifting in that regard. But we both know that remaining within the EU was a major component of the better together campaign. Another one was increased and permanent devolved powers to Holyrood. Go figure. Now, we can go 12 rounds arguing technicalities, but in the end having a chance to join will always be infinitely better than no chance to join at all, which is the current state of affairs. Guaranteed membership in the EU and then up and leaving the EU, despite the Scottish vote and wish to remain, is still very much the heart of the conflict. It's form over substance, mate.

Source: SNP webpage "Scottish voters were told they could protect their EU citizenship by voting remain" Admittedly not an objective source, but neither are any media outlet in Britain when it comes to IndyRef or indeed Brexit. The majority of Europe would go to bat for Scotland to join the EU. NATO is a given since Scotland's strategic location is paramount for security in the North Sea. So yeah, there will be a lot of quid pro quo's behind the scene, but in the end, countries like Spain and especially Hungary will comply or suffer severe consequences. Britain rejoining, if ever, won't happen until the current generation of Tories responsible are out. So yes "technically". And yes, independence is still a better bet given Tory policies which are dismantling every social service, quite contrary to the wishes of Scotland. Take the rhetorical win, mate. I'll have to do with the substantive one.

The veto right will be the doom of the EU as it effectively allows for corporate and foreign state actors pressure their will through smaller nation states. Its The Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth all over again. And that didn't end very well.
