  1. How about we "break free" militarily from the US? The only legitimate and legal US interventions have had broad international support behind them. The illegal and highly costly (in civilian lives, stability and treasure) foreign entanglements of the US where some EU/NATO nations have been drawn in, have on thw ither hand been uttee disasters for Europe in terms of refugees, regional stability and moral authority. "The US shits and the EU picks up after them" would be an undiplomatic, but very honest, description of the current state of affairs. Does strategic autonomy not include the most basic principle: The ability to protect your own citizens without reliance on fickle foreign powers?
