I'd go a bit further and say that "Jewishness" is an umbrella term for culture, religion and/or ethnicity, where ethnicity is extremely dubious, as you'd find many that identify as non-Jews with more "Jewish ancestry" according to the genetic clusters that are associated with Jewish groups around the world. The problem is that the entire discipline is politicised due to the claims of the Israeli state. If you find my writing problematic, this is purely from a scientific point of view, but with respect to real consequences in our world.
