"There will be suffering" That's the motto of Israel towards Palestinians. I find it a bit jarring that this intellectual is never brought to task, let alone even asked, about the inhumane policies and actions of his own government. Hell, he probably even actively promoted these acts by serving himself. Nuance would be appreciated.

The economy isn't "DOOMED"... It's the simple fact that circumstances and technologies always have impacted economies and it has adjusted accordingly. We're in a phase where there should have been an "equalizer" ie world war, pandemic or global financial crisis, but instead we've seen increased inequality during crises in this millennium. Lastly, I'd call you an abject moron if you assume the same level of continuous economic growth ad infinitum on a planet with finite resources.

It's a distinct culture and people from a specific region. He even himself refers to "Palestinian" factions. By his own standards, there should be no such thing as "American" or "Israeli" in that case, as these are wholly artificially constructed nationalities assembled from a vast array of people. Inviting someone that denies the existence of an entire people, a people enshrined in international law, is either ignorance or willful misinformation.

I don't put much faith in Ian Bremmer and his political analyses. It somehow always seems off. As if he has an agenda and a message with his "predictions", which begs the question: Who funds the Eurasia Group? The question of funding for "thinktanks, consultants and analysts" should always be presented along with their other credentials.

After the first 8 minutes, I can honestly say that they seem like self-important and oblivious to the actual circumstances of conflict and misery. The View lady that complained about her vacation to Italy might get cancelled kind of comes to mind, but I expected better from these guys.

@themore-you-know That's on the "market" itself. And why strong unions are a good thing. Important jobs that aren't compensated properly will simply cease to have the needed number of applicants. I view demographic tendencies differently: it's a good thing that less people are born because many of them would have become obsolete with automation of many low skill labour jobs. And the next group to get hit will probably be in logistics and transportation (trains, trucks, buses, taxis etc.) when AIs are implemented. What we are lacking however, is making important jobs such as yours (and nurses, teachers, care homes etc) that can't be automated a priority so that people apply for them now, not when there's a critical shortage.

Zeihan is spot on with the global system and the dependence on strategic resources. However, the demographic fear mongering about smaller generations to support an ageing population (in general, I agree that China is screwed) doesn't even consider automation, digitisation and and a more equitable distribution of wealth and tax burdens. The latter is the most important. Without that, we'll just see a return to the 1930's...

Awww, someone made a boo boo in your roof. Are you starving? Are your children dead or missing? Are your hospitals being attacked and bombed? No? Then don't equate what your Apartheid genocidal regime is doing against an entire people with a bit of glorified fireworks. @natalianegritto Again. Same goes for Islam and Judaism. The many "kill them" quotes are referring to actual events or the end times prophesies. It's ignorant to believe that one religion is all about war and death and that your own religion is so much better because you choose to cherrypick the scripture. If Jesus was actually listened to, why the hell are there so many social problems that could be solved with paying a bit more in taxes - shouldn't conservative Christians be pushing for that instead of denying people healthcare, housing, food etc? Hypocrisy and greed are their true Gods. Not Yahwe, Jesus or whatever...

@fs5775 I'll bite. Safer than Scandinavia? Canada? Netherlands? Portugal? How many leakers and whistleblowers are in exile and/or imprisoned in those countries? How about demonstrators getting arrested and/or beaten up without any cause? I did pay attention, and while my comment was admittedly glib, this guy has no f**** clue what he's talking about. But it's great to have your American ego stroked, I guess. The US is not #1 in anything that matters to ordinary people.

@Kittykatg2023 Are you that misinformed or is it cognitive dissonance? They're under a siege, which is an act of occupation. And with US backing, Israel can do whatever it wants with no repercussions. To give you an example of your point: Was there "peace" in France when the Nazis rolled into Paris in 1940? Do you dispute that Israel has occupied Palestinian territories since 1967? That the settlements are illegal? And that a blockade/siege is an act of war? If so, I have nothing to say except read up on international conventions, laws, hell, even a bit of history. Then we can continue a relevant discussion. Hint: The media and governments do in fact lie.

This is absolutele BS. Russia has invaded Georgia and invaded Ukraine before with the annexation of Crimea in so-called "wars of conquest". It's only important now because of the higher stakes and proximity to NATO countries. And then there's the multitude of examples in Africa which no one in the West gives a flying f*** about... He's wrong. Harari should stick to his areas of expertise. He's woefully underinformed when it comes to history and geopolitics.

The next evolution of humans is most definitely NOT coming naturally. We've effectively extinguished any and all selection pressures that would provide any advantages large enough to warrant "homo novus". If we don't select a cybernetic path of augmentation, however, there's a potential for targeted genetic screening and thus improvement in the not-so-distant future.

I've had it with economic predictions. Meteorology gets a lot of shit, but it's based in (imperfect) science. Medicine is the professionwho had historically been most wrong, but has implemented a method to weed out BS. Economics is not based on common sense consensus. It's based on normative conjecture and ideology. And it has no way of evaluating BS theories and hypotheses.

Secondly, Palestinians have suffered far longer than Hamas has existed. That tells me two things: - Israel has never been interested in true peace. They wanted pacification and domination. - Israels denial of hope and opportunities to the Palestinians in their own state has ultimately caused the creation of Hamas. Oh, and they're verifiably committing genocide now because their leaders have openly declared their intent. It's in fact Palestinians who would be annihilated.

You can find similar quotes in the Bible, including Jesus himself, and especially the Tanakh - most recently the "Almalek" speech that Netanyahu gave that basically meant "Kill everything". You're cherry picking to confirm your bias. Look instead at the conflict zones and their origin, and you'll understand that it has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with neo-con capitalism and maintaining the hegemony.

@kristiskinner8542 I have read the Hamas charter of 2017. Have you? Or did someone in the media just outline it for you with their interpretation? I'm not defending Hamas or their actions, but simply referring to something as "Islamic" is not good enough. Even though you might clutch your pearls by the thought. Their charter has not much to do with Islam, really, except the sanctity of the Al Aqsa mosque. Its foremost a Palestinian nationalist charter. They are even willing to abide by the 1967 borders as outlined in UN resolutions, but on the condition that all settlers be expelled from West Bank and East Jerusalem. Since they are illegal, I don't see a problem with that. At all. If you can have Christian Democrats in Europe, Republican religious right in the US, I don't see why you can't have "Islamic" Conservative parties and groups in the Middle East. I don't agree with them at all, but then again, I'm probably considered a socialist in the US. It's a set of misinformed double standards peddled by media that are interested in keeping you afraid and suspicious. Because it generates clicks, which generates money, which generates votes, which generates power. Get off the "fear and loathing" crack, lady.

It doesn't. "Global South" is a catch-all term for developing nations because the vast majority of "Northern" countries are wealthy and developed. However, it is ultimately an incorrect term since many major developing nations are in fact in the Northern hemisphere (India, China, Pakistan, Egypt, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, Thailand, Vietnam etc...)

We have been going into "this vicious cycle" long before Hamas came along. Hamas was a sad response to that. And they were supported by the US and Israel to fragment the Palestinian leadership and unity. And just like the Mujahedeen it bit them in the ass. Having said that: A former collaborator with the apartheid occupation isn't the most trusted source in terms of anything. He will lie his ass off to look like the good guy - especially if he is unchallenged and his claims are unverified.

To fragment the Palestinians and continuously use provocations from Hamas to stall and renege on negotiations for peace while illegal settlements continue to expand. The siege started in 2006, which is an act of war, occupation and collective punishment. Israel has occupied Gaza and West Bank for generations. That's not an opinion, that's international law, no matter what some old fantasy book says about Jewish land.

Regarding any peace treaties from Oslo until now, how is that going? Since Peres, every new government has continued settlements and reneged on their agreements. The US are not a trustworthy arbiter. ...And then in general there's the violence, killing, beating, imprisonment, torture, expulsions, apartheid in occupied territories etc etc etc. Or do you believe UN observers, Amnesty, HRC, Doctors without Borders and every goddamn human rights NGO on the planet to be "biased" too? Wake up, lady. Just because white people are guilty of killing and persecuting Jews for centuries, doesn't mean that Israel has a carte blanche to do the same to the Palestinians... @BradleyLayton I guess any rational educated person would point out the absurdity in a "chosen people". Especially if you open up the discussion of what is "Jewish" ie. culture, Israel (nationality), genetics (which is a non-sequitor) or religion. The obfuscation is somewhat intentional in politics as we've seen many critics of Israel called Anti-semites because of criticism of Israeli policies alone... But I digress. I'm not entirely convinced that Harari is not a zionist and ultimately at odds with humanist values.
