Aka "The Israeli playbook" ? On the contrary, Russian interests are fully aligned with a ceasefire allowing them time to marshall their forces. Ukraine does not have the same luxury.

Would Article 5 even apply, even if French soil is attacked? In this case they would have entered the conflict willingly and fully aware of the consequences. Russia wouldn't be stupid enough to entertain that notion, much like Ukraine hasn't made any overt moves towards Belarus or Russia proper. Not that it matters. Our politicians will always find an excuse to do what they intended all along be that belligerence or betrayal.

I think it's great. Now let's do the same for Bush, Blair and almost every single Israeli Prime Minister.

@Erhogz So you basically agree. The planes and munitions they have can't do the job = no air force of any use.

@Braggyshouseys461 Oh, sorry, my fat thumbs might have deleted who I was replying to. Otherwise, I see your point. That's one hell of a red flag...

@Jake-rs9nq In terms of geopolitics, yes, you're right. But in terms of image, prestige and the average citizens perceiving the US and Israel, there has absolutely been a titanic shift in the opinion. And when political parties stand to a beating exactly because of their support for Israel, we might actually see consequences for the absolute terror and war crimes of Israel, abetted by the US. To put it bluntly: What did Hamas indeed lose by this? Id argue they've just recruited a million new members in Gaza and the West Bank...

The US did indeed succeed in "keeping Germany down" by their sabotage of Nordstream. They weakened both Russia and Germany and created at the same time a monopolistic market for their own LNG exports. Genius, if not outright evil.

It's a blessing in disguise. Europe needs to stand on our own, with our own defense strategy, our own supply lines and our own manufacturing of arms. Why are we sending hundreds of billions and many thousands of jobs every year to the US instead of using it to build up our own strength and capabilities? NATO at this point has become nothing more than a racket for US arms. End it and end our association with a country that won't stand by its allies when it counts. I'd be very worried if I was Taiwan.

Long-term: Sure. Who knows. But there's no realistic scenario right now that allows for Ukraine joining NATO

Winter favors the Finns and no one else.

Can we please stop reporting on this politically moronic and generally horrid human being.

Putin's war in Ukraine is the best thing that could have happened for NATO. - Members have committed to 2% spending (which in my opinion is too high). - Sweden and Finland have all but joined - Likely expansion with Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia - Fear of new russian aggression quelling any dissent or reform Time to invest in Oerlikon, Lockheed and Rheinmetal, people.

It's a bad idea. That's exactly what the Czar did in WW1. Instead of controlling the dissidents, it's a recipe for disgruntled citizens to bring news of home and the lies being told, causing mass desertions and organized resistance against the regime.

Israel is the nuclear armed brat that was never disciplined and has now become an adult sociopath. Occupation, apartheid and, as stated by government officials very clearly, acts of genocide. Everything said about Russia (which is absolutely correct) can be applied by orders of magnitude towards Israel. Why then can we not act according to our values and the legal system we've championed?

Who the hell thinks that the war is over? Maybe the first "phase" is over, but the war itself has showed no signs of abating...

It'll be a prolonged affair akin to Syria and The West is perfectly fine with giving Russia a bloody nose if it only costs a few billion worth of military hardware and thousands upon thousands of Ukrainian lives. As soon as the war actually impacts Europeans in a meaningful way ie prolonged food, gas, heating prices and severe inflation, they'll gladly sell out Ukraine...
