  17. The Middle East was very liberal until the 70s. How come and why did it shift so quickly? In two words: American Policy. Blame the Americans and the French who sold out Lebanon during the civil war and during the Israeli aggression. The people of Lebanon rejected the West after that, just as the people of Iran rejected the despotic, corrupt Shah backed by the US. The Middle East has had enough and people will seek whatever means to resist, even if it means turning to more fundamentalist elements. The US has learned nothing from 75 years of hegemonic meddling in the region. "Every action has an equal and opposite reaction" comes to mind.

  20. Like what? Fast food? Drone Strikes? Mass Media? Consumerism? Social Media? Anti-Vax? Climate Denial? Lobbies controlling politics and courts? The only moral, good thing the US did was join WW2. And that was after denying Jewish refugees and they themselves were attacked. And even during the war, the US interned citizens of German and Japanese descent and terror bombed Japan and Germany. The US has not been a force for good since the fall of the Soviet Union. Just a force for continued hegemony.

Sure, the people might sympathise, but when even the West Bank is staying mostly silent on the massacres in Gaza, what hope is there that the Egyptian, Saudi or Turkish people will suddenly rise up and demand action from their leaders (masters)? The only countries that have acted are the nations that themselves have suffered first hand under genocidal slaughter and colonial Apartheid - Ireland, South Africa and Yemen.
