Not among the cheapest by a longshot. And that's of course if you entirely discount the R&D and initial investment pool. It's the single most expensive weapons program in history. By far.

Give it 10 years with next gen AA and we're back to logistics and cost efficiency. The F35 loses that competition badly.

Are you having a ströke?

@petersouthernboy6327 I'm almost in denial too since a single plane costs the equivalent of running a medium size hospital for a year. Not including parts, personnel and the trillions used on development, of course. In any equal combat scenario, the F35 is simply too expensive and difficult to replace to be an effective combat platform. Any country except the US simply can't afford it beyond the initial purchase and development investments made.

@petersouthernboy6327 They're politically committed to buy the planes because they otherwise can't defend the huge R&D and initial investment to their tax payers. It's called being "pot committed" in poker. The weapons program alone cost a double digit trillion $. That's besides the initial purchase and running costs. The F35 is amazing, no doubt there. I'm arguing that it's vastly overpriced compared to its abilities. You have presented absolutely nothing to dissuade that notion besides jingoistic platitudes, regurgitated buzz words and rudeness. Try having an original thought for once in your life. I promise you, you'll love it.

@jonathanpfeffer3716 12 trillions in USD, buddy. It's a social welfare program that (thankfully) produces something the IS can export. Prove me wrong on that one, sport...
