We live in a society that promotes the very worst of us to the top positions in our society. They're not better than you or more intelligent, they're simply more callous and cruel - and are rewarded for it.

I'm becoming increasingly convinced that greed is an undiagnosed mental disorder. It certainly covers a lot of the basic criteria for mental illness.

This has been going on for 56 years. Almost every day Palestinians have been killed, beaten, imprisoned and/or evicted from their homes. And we've simply watched it all happen because of our guilt from European crimes from which the Palestinians are innocent. How tragic that Israeli Jews are treating another people exactly like they themselves were treated.

Overheard in Bruxelles: "Yeah, We're not doing too well. But it could be worse, we could be Britain!"

The UK: Quickly becoming morally as well as financially bankrupt.

@lestrem11 "Before labour"... Sure mate. The entire British economy flipped before they even had a budget let alone implementation of one, right? You sound absolutely deranged.
42
If the public had their say, many of these Israeli officers and politicians would be in the Hague.
41
Read up on the conflict if you're that ignorant. The Palestinian Territories are in fact occupied by Israel and not an independent country. The settlements are illegal colonies. These teens are imprisoned for years, many of them without trials and exposed to torture and beatings.

(In a Dane, just my two cents) With Brexit, the UK has ironically caused the very same problem that the Brexit fearmongers were constantly talking about. The UK suffered a hemorrhage of skilled labour, particularly nurses, and are now resorting to let people of a "certain complexion" immigrate to the UK. Add to that, Britain has no longer treaty protections with regards to asylum seekers from the rest of the EU, resulting in an increase in asylum seekers of a "certain complexion". Oh well, swings and roundabouts, eh?

The greatest threat to national security will be the conflicts over water, arable land and the inevitable climate catastrophes unleashed. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think so.
34
Poor O'Brien. 8 years of dealing with denial and gaslighting. It's a miracle he's still sane.
30
This might be the best summation of these horrid events I have read. Thank you

In my lifetime, you guys went from "the empire where the sun always shined" to now being "the place where the sun doesn't shine"...
25
Corbyn, the man you needed, but the way he was treated evidently not the one you deserved.
15
The world must be a scary and complicated place for you, if you can't grasp that Hamas' actions don't speak for the people and that civilians are being murdered by Israeli armed forces as we speak. Are you okay with that?
14
It doesn't matter. If you're voting Trump you'll excuse it away as you've excused away every other horrible thing he has said and done...
13
YOU voted for the Tories again and again, and YOU allowed yourself to be deceived by xenophobia and pies in the sky, despite every knowledgeable person screaming to you of the consequences. Yes, the media and politicians are to blame, but they couldn't have done it without YOU. (By "YOU" I mean the British public in general, not necessarily you as a person)
13
Media literacy and source analysis is the single most important skill for an informed citizenry today. It should be thought as a separate subject as soon as the kids are able to comprehend it.
10
"A people that eschews moral integrity over financial integrity, will in the end deserve neither and lose both" Just paraphrasing old Benny Franks for something to consider across the channel.
10
I don't know why many of these 2nd gen politicians feel the need to "outdo" the mainstream elements of their party when it comes to the treatment of people seeking the same life as their parents once did, Instead we see them resort to the language of fear, hate and cruelty...
8
"Beware of charismatic leaders" Frank Herbert in an interview about the main themes in Dune.
8
I agree completely. It is however a bit more complex since the press in Britain is heavily skewed towards misinforming the average voter
7
I'd argue that personal integrity has always been a bit lacklustre in a country that has occupied another people for 3 generations.
7
It's not misogyny. It's the refusal of "crowning" a candidate and expecting the voter to do as they're told. It's supposed to be the other way around, but the Obama's and Clinton's of the world have forgotten that.
6
Go. But make sure to send a second camera crew undercover that can ask around and interview people.
6
I've been publicly called an anti-Semite in an opinion piece (I'm Danish Palestinian), after criticizing the Israeli govt. in my own opinion piece. Just as if you're a Muslim that sympathizes or support islamistic violence, I don't believe it's unfair to request the same of Jews, of whom many, have a vested interest in the continued annexation, occupation and illegal settling of non-Israeli land - especially since a Jewish person can, any day of the week, be granted citizenship based solely on religion.
6
@1inchPunchBowl Compelling argument. Care to attach anything substantive to prove your point. Maybe some sources too. I'm curious how someone can be so ill informed and yet so certain...
6
That's part of the danger. The result is an inevitable crumbling of our standards when deciding who to lead the country and settling for lesser people in positions of power...
5
Hand X-rays show the age of an individual. It's standard procedure for unaccompanied minors.
5
@JoBroughton-yw7un You're talking about 1948. I'm talking about the 242 UN resolution on 1967 borders. But nice job, sport. You didn't even leave a link or a direct quote and citation. Whatever country you're from you should ask them to invest more in history and critical analysis skills.
5
It's the same story all over. Don't count him out and don't count out the sheer numbers of nutters that'll still vote for him.
4
If anything some of the callers are an indictment of the education system.
4
And they tweeted about the attack, and that they had struck a hospital moments after it happened. Then deleted the tweet. That's your smoking gun right there. Also, no Hamas rockets have ever carried the amount of ordnance required for such a huge explosion. As in ever.
4
Think tanks are NOT a vital part of the political process. Just listen to their names "The Freedom Institute", "National Prosperity Forum" etc etc. It's almost Orwellian. NGOs and vested interest groups are part of the process, but the aforementioned entities are solely there to lend (faux) credibility in the media to especially economic policies that have either been not proven to work, or proven to not work. Always ask "Who funds you" and "Why do they fund you"...
4
I'm not a Brit, I'm a Dane (and an MD). The whole reason for the strike is exactly that horrors and tragedies already are unfolding due to staff shortage and underfunding of the NHS. We're in a bit of the same state here in DK where the nurses were shafted during their strike, and guess what, the lack of nurses has only increased and record few are training to become nurses... A cautionary tale.
4
@didntlistendad No doubt. But it's as if the system itself selects for these rather nasty attributes. Think of how many politicians you actually respect. Journalists. Business execs. Bankers and finance analysts. An anecdote: I work as an MD in Denmark, I've been in dusins of departments (training, specialisation etc) and I can think of three separate bosses I've respected and felt took the concerns of the employees seriously. Three out of dusins!
4
It's like a fever needed to flush out the infection.
3
@mogznwaz Compelling argument. I'll repeat it to all the people sleeping with full bellies in my country.
3
Okay "Bro"
3
Well, his per Diem as we know from his colleagues is around 10K a day so... Win?
3
Suella is of Indian heritage. They're not exactly known for their love of Pakistanis. Not exactly known for great treatment of women either, ironically.
3
You SHOULD name names. Otherwise nothing will change.
3
UBI. Reform the wage system so that you split the difference, lower income taxation on lower brackets and increase company profit taxation or even convert to revenue based taxation for all companies (so that companies no longer can funnel their profits abroad). Result: A competitive consumer driven system with lower wages attracting high value added jobs, a much higher overall living standard for all and billions saved on admin for heckling and hassling disabled or mentally ill people. Crunch the numbers. Tell me I'm wrong on this.
3
Hate. Which is useful, since they should be considered enemies of the public.
3
British press are among the worst people on this planet
3
Far more than half. 30% didn't even bother to vote.
3
Israel has committed war crimes for 18 years straight with the siege in Gaza. That must be some kind of record! And then there's the usual strike/operation/raid (terror has many synonyms apparently) with thousands of civilians killed over the years. Israel is not a moral country. When our policies support the criminals, we become complicit.
2
He's simply the newest branch on the tree of pathetic misogynists we see online. You should report on their activities because as we've seen, when they finally misstep, the attention is still there to make sure they lose everything.
2
The UK has a systematic problem of their media being integrally married to their politics. In the UK, many media outlets are not "watch dogs" for the have-nots. They're "attack dogs" for the have-alls.

I was so sad when I heard he will accidentally fall off the balcony tomorrow
