@1414141x Surely Welsh, Irish and Scottish genes are more "British" on the Isles, no? There was only minor Norwegian settlements in Ireland and Scotland, and very little Roman influence compared to England proper - which was my original point. In essence it makes no sense to not only confuse ethnicity and nationality, especially if you're English and think that you are in any way, shape or form "a Briton"...

The Middle East has been hostile towards the UK and the US since their broken promise after WW1 for an independent, united Arab state. And then came WW2 and the inception of Israel, with 70 years of unequivocal military, financial and political support for Israel and continuously propping up dictators against the interests of the people of the Middle East. They don't "hate your way of life". They hate your hypocrisy and the pain it has caused.

Nazis had plenty of doctors, engineers and lawyers among them. Just a thought.

If your kids are starving, you'd do the same if you honestly believed it would help.

What is it with people with immigrant parents that suddenly go full xenophobic on people that would have been their parents 2 generations ago?

Meanwhile Sunak and his ilk are counting their mountains of money on your expense. But sure, Sangita's posh accent is the main problem here...

Every health system in Western Europe is struggling due to staff shortages, underfunding (or more accurately, a lack of a required increase in funding) and a comensurate rise in patients caused by an ageing population. The scandal in Britain is how it's been handled by your government the last 12 years whilst seemingly having no issue whatsoever with granting tax cuts to the highest standard and corporations. There's a huge difference between "350 mill a week" and cutting funding instead...

My heart goes out to the people of the UK. But you have to admit that this is pretty hilarious...

There's a very easy way to make Republicans change the gun laws: People of color should all arm themselves to the teeth. I guarantee you that when Black and Brown people start openly carrying legal firearms in red states, they will change the laws.

Of course the voters are partly to blame! You keep voting for them, despite your conscience, your wallet and your common sense!

It's a general symptom everywhere although the UK is a prime example. If you choose to be a populist, you're forced to cater to the worst impulses to garner votes to gain power, and then you have to be progressively more vile to compete for those votes to maintain your power. No actual leadership, no visions, no plans for the future. Just hate, rinse and repeat.

Another recipe for absolute corruption...

I'm not British, but how can anyone with a straight face claim that the Tories have run anything well? There's a new scandal every week that in other countries would have brought down the government. For you people, it's Tuesday.

I've seen and heard plenty of Holocaust survivors that used the exact same language towards Palestinians that they themselves were victims of. If you're a Holocaust survivor and unequivocally defend Israel (ie you're a Zionist) then I don't believe you have a moral leg to stand on...

As an outsider, to me it seems that the class system is so entrenched that even working class people have convinced themselves it's for their benefit. Rule Brittania and all that jazz. It's not unlike the abject poverty of Americans who oppose taxes and social reform just in case they happen to become wealthy one day. They've merely switched out class for race and ideology as a means of self-identification.

"anti-growth coalition" = Everyone capable of sound economic and ethical reasoning. Including some Tories. The only thing that promotes limitless growth in a environment of limited resources, well, that's called "cancer".

It's really been that way since Reaganism and Gingrich in the Senate. Trump is simply the ideology taken to its inevitable conclusion.

What is it with these 2nd to 3rd generation immigrants in power that feel they need to be worse than the worst xenophobia? Not just in the UK, mind you, but you guys have some of the worst.

Except that internal memos have shown that Netanyahus government specifically propped up Hamas to keep the Palestinians divided in negotiations and be able to continue their settlements without any consequences.

Ah, yes. "Think tanks". What a waste of time, energy and treasure. They're lobbyists disguised as serious political, economic and sociological research groups. You could remove every single think tank tomorrow and literally no one (well, except themselves, obviously) would know the difference.
